Description
Getting a Roof Over Saskatoon’s Housing Crisis
A Community Conversation to Discuss the Solutions
Rental rates continue to rise, house prices are soaring, and housing of every kind is getting both harder to find and more expensive in Saskatoon. Families and individuals are falling behind on their rent or being pushed out due to condo conversions. Businesses can’t expand because prospective additional staff can’t find places to live here. For many the dream of being able to buy a home has evaporated. For an increasing number of people, absolute homelessness is the desperate daily reality.
Something can and must be done to find solutions to the housing problems in Saskatoon. That’s why we are inviting you come to a public forum where participants will have an opportunity to hear analysis and discuss solutions.
Special Guest Speakers:
JACK LAYTON, Leader of Canada’s NDP, M P and author of “Homelessness: The Making and Unmaking of a Crisis”
RYAN WALKER, Assistant Professor, Urban Planning and Geography, U of S.
MARLA HARTMAN, Community Activist and Frontline Worker
CHARLIE CLARK, Saskatoon City Councilor, Ward 6
There will be an open mic following the speakers - everyone is welcome to participate.
We urge you to come and participate in this important discussion of issues ranging from absolute homelessness to affordable housing here in Saskatoon. If you would like to share information on your initiatives in housing, please book a display table by calling Stacey Dyck-Jiricka at 931-7162.
