Starting in the summer of 2003, Papa String Band members Daron LaBruyere and Brett Mello started turning heads on the rocks of the Broad River. Many would gather 'round to listen to their new take on ol' time bluegrass. In May of 2004 the duo decided to take their act to local bars and restaurants, and have been performing frequently in Columbia ever since. In January of 2005 talented keyboardest Will Smith joined up with Papa String in an attempt by all to stretch the boundaries of traditional bluegrass music. This element of unconventional instrumentation has allowed the band to explore and expand areas of their own music that once seemed unattainable. The Papa String Band is not just confined to bluegrass, but has evolved into an ever-changing, spontaneous, and unpredictable sensory experience.
