Beertasting and New Photography at Southern Barbarian

An eclectic afternoon involving young Chinese photography, video installations from the Antipodes and beer-tasting from American Craft Beer at the opening of Southern Barbarian’s new lounge bar (upstairs from the restaurant). Our new exhibition showcases a small selection of photos from “3030 New Photography in China”, a survey of 30 mainland photographers under 30. As journalism professor Gu Zheng puts it, they’re the first generation in modern China “whose life experiences, values and behaviour are based on consumer ideology – what might be described as China’s first generation of individualistic ‘new citizens’. Check out their worldview.

We also bring “Antipodes” to Shanghai. This is a series of innovative video art including a preview of “You” by New Zealand-born sculptor Allan Giddy which will be shown in the Tate, London.

And last but not least we celebrate American craft beer week with six different beers for tasting, provided by American craft beer.
