The Promise of Concentrated Solar Power

The promise of cost-effective solar technology through solar thermal power plants will be the topic of discussion at the next Nano Lunch on Thursday, May 22. The lunchtime forum, sponsored by the Clean Tech Institute and the International Association of Nanotechnology, will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at 1290 Parkmoor Ave., San Jose.

Rainer Aringhoff, president of Berkeley-based Solar Millennium, will talk about the significant developments in concentrated solar power (CSP), long-term market prospects for CSP and regulatory drawbacks to this emerging renewable energy source.

Solar Millennium AG is a globally active company in the renewable energy sector with its main focus on solar thermal power plants. The company has developed Europe’s first parabolic trough power plants in Spain, and further projects with a capacity of several hundred megawatts are currently being planned worldwide, including in the United States.

An overview of clean tech and nanotech training programs offered by the California Institute of Nanotechnology will also be presented, as well as financing options. Networking opportunities will take place before and after the presentation.
