Esa-Pekka Salonen, principal conductor of London's Philharmonia Orchestra, conducts the CSO's first performances of his own Violin Concerto, which was co-commissioned by the CSO, with violinist Leila Josefowicz as soloist. Also on the program are works by two composers for whom Salonen has a strong affinity: Debussy (Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun) and Sibelius (Symphony No. 2).
