SMACK DAB : an open stage hosted by Kirk Read and Larry-bob Roberts. Once a month, we give you a better reason to come to the Castro besides cheap lube. We're a tall glass of aloe vera juice for a neighborhood that needs 28 days in detox. Give all your compulsive behaviors a two-hour respite and come hang out with us: a tiny beacon of sanity in a city that runs on coffee, crystal meth and high speed connectivity. Put down the Kool-Aid, honey. We're right here.

Featured performer: Jan Richman

Jan Richman is the author of "Because the Brain Can Be Talked Into Anything" (Louisiana State University Press), winner of the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets. Her honors include a "Discovery"/ The Nation Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Felix Pollack Poetry Prize and the Celia B. Wagner Award. Her poems and stories have appeared in The Nation, Ploughshares, Kenyon Review, 6,500, Other Magazine, and many other publications. She lives in San Francisco and is presently working on a novel called "Tourette's & Roller Coasters."

All ages, all genders, all the time.

If you'd like to perform at the open mic, please bring five minutes or less of your unsolicited advice, writing, music, dance, performance, cooking suggestions or whatever it is you want to share. Musicians, one song. Prose writers: that's about two and a half double spaced pages of prose.

At Magnet, the queer neighborhood health center, 4122 18th Street between Castro and Collingwood. www.magnetsf.org
