Beer and Blog - Can we replace Twitter with our blogs?

Is there anything that Twitter does uniquely that we can't do with our blogs? At this Beer and Blog work session we plan to explore that question. Our goal is to figure out how to replace Twitter without needing to create anything new. And, if we do need to engineer a centralized service, how minimal does it need to be and how can I use my blog to make the updates.
