Boston's Literary Landmarks
Saturday October 8, 2011 from 10:00am - 11:30am
Outside Border's Books
10 School Street
Boston, Massachusetts 02108 Get Directions
This walking tour strolls through the vibrant literary history of Victorian Boston. By the mid-nineteenth century Boston had earned the nickname The Athens of America and indeed, Boston was the most important literary center in the United States and home to many of America's greatest writers.

This literary tour highlights the homes and haunts of such great Victorians as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, Henry James, Charles Dickens, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Individually, they were writers and poets without peer. Collectively, they made Boston the epicenter of American Letters.

Boston By Foot is a nonprofit organization to promote the architecture and history of Boston. Guided walking tours are offered regularly May-October and private tours may be requested throughout the year. See the Boston By Foot web site to see the wide spectrum of offerings or for information about becoming a member.
