June brings us the amazing Soulful sounds of Kate Thelfall for starters, The good-times Brazilian funk vibes from the Fontanas as a main course, and DJ C-Boogie for pudding. Get in.
In an underground ex-toilet in Shepherds Bush, there’s a funky revolution going on. With live bands and DJs on the night, unpretentious, non-exclusive, and always full of happy people, Cover Up does things properly. Like Jazzy B says, “a happy face, a thumping bass, for a loving race.”

Kate Threlfall
A soulful young singer and songwriter from Manchester. Brought up in a family of musicians and performers, she incorporates a love of soul and jazz amongst many other influences to bring together strong and personal songs at the piano. Her music is feminine, often sassy and funky, often vulnerable and honest. Learning the piano and cello from a young age, Kate was introduced to classical music by her parents, with which she mixed her own love of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, Joni Mitchell and Aretha Franklin to lead her to songwriting. Kate’s work as a songwriter also includes writing the festival song for 2009’s celebr8 (don’t discrim8), a festival promoting acceptance and friendship around the North West as well as co-writing with The Bridgewater Hall’s Poet in Residence Terry Caffrey. She has also worked with many other producers, including Dario Darnell and Lenny Smart. Currently based in London, Kate is concentrating on extending her performances all over the UK and Europe, as well as writing songs, as she puts it “usually once a day…keeps me sane.”

DJ C-Boogie
Funk with Hip Hop, salsa with ragga, Samba with scratching, DJ C-Boogie never can decide what sort of music he wants to play, so he plays it all, except for house music, never that. Or techno. Or metal actually. So not all, but quite a lot of different kinds of music, played on records, with his real life actual hands. Safe!
