Before all the geeky folk of New Delhi schools (batch of 2008) set off to join their respective colleges (or prepare to drop a year), how about having a meeting of quizzers and computer club members of all schools across Delhi at some place! No competitions this time. :) 'Juniors' (those who aren't from Delhi Geeks Batch of 2008) and 'alumni' Delhi Geeks (who're already studying in college are welcome too).
Right now, there’s a venue issue - we have none - so this is being kept an informal meet with no particular agenda. Basically going to be a ‘working lunch’ sort of meeting at some restaurant, at Connaught Place. PVR Plaza is simply going to be the meeting point, because CP is a big place and this is a good landmark everyone can get to. The actual restaurant (not at the end of the Universe) we end up going to would be dictated by the number of people turning up and the vacancies, but going by the current list I’d say that the Nirula’s, Outer Circle CP might be a place which will be able to accomodate an expected turnout of 20-25 people - other places, I don’t think they’ll be able to accomodate that many. Still, any suggestions are welcome. Oh, and since nobody is sponsoring this, everyone chips in to the bill.
*** Due to popular demand, the date has been shifted to 5th July 2008. This is because quite a lot of people have their college counselling going on at this time. ***
IMPORTANT: There’s just ONE request - IF you’re attending / planning to attend the event, please click on the "I'm Going" / "I'm Watching" buttons and add your name. We really need to know at the meeting point whether everyone has turned up, and possibly inform any stragglers on the event day where we’re leaving for from the meeting place.

If you've any suggestions for the event, please leave it here as a comment.
Sounds like an awesome idea. Though I'm not really sure that I would qualify as a geek. Was thinking of doing this since a long time myself.
I'm OK with the date, but couldn't you shift the location to a more central location? Cause I am located in North Delhi and coming all the way to South Delhi isn't really my idea of fun.
Sure...maybe we could all settle for Connaught Place? It's quite 'central', has a lot of food options, and is easy to get too for many people via the Metro. How about that?
So is this actually happening for real on 29th? Maybe it would be prudent to postpone it by a week or so. Currently there don't seem to be enough people willing to come plus the weather is quite ruthless..
@Uma: Postponing? Why? I don't think there will be much time later, will there? College sessions, for most lucky folk, would be starting in first / second week of July.
Please note, everyone, that due to popular demand, the event is being shifted to 6th July. 'Popular demand' means not only Uma, but a few others as well. :P
Sneezy Melon and I won't be able to come to the event if it is being postponed by 1 week. We have multiple counselling sessions around that time and that would make it impossible to take out time for fun.
I think 15 people is a good enough crowd, and a crowd larger than that won't be able to interact properly, as it would get dominated by small chunks of people who know each other forming small groups in themselves and not interacting with others, which would defeat the whole purpose.
See, others have a direct clash with their DU / IP counselling. In your case, it's on 7th July. :) Surely you don't need to prep for counselling! The thing is, after the second week of July there may be NO time for any meets like this, because people have college sessions starting from 3rd week of July.
5th is perfectly fine with me at least.
Although the point that Apoorv raised regrading the number of people in the group does seem sort of valid..
I think we should at least have a clear destination in CP(Which is a pretty huge place) in mind even if there is still no concrete agenda for the meet.Wandering around aimlessly in this sort of weather doesn't sound appealing to me.
Let us see the final response from everyone by June 2 .... If number is clear... I will suggest some places -
a) PICA-DILLI (Which is just on the Ground Floor of PLAZA) - Huge Place
b) PIZZA HUT Janpath (Normally not very crowded)
OR
Some other place
umm..I wont be able to make it on 5th due to AIEEE counselling. And neither would Apoorv. I don't see why you are postponing it. 15 people have already confirmed for 29th. And then people from the exun would be joining us as well. If it clashes with DU counselling, we can change the timing. 3-7 PM maybe. What say?
As for the people who have confirmed they are going, I hope you all have made sure you ARE going to come before confirmation. If you haven't, please do.
And then, we can always make this a monthly event. If we keep postponing it because of low turnout, it won't happen. I say even 10 is crowd enough.
I think we should also finalise the restaurant, and maybe reach directly there? Pizza Hut, the ones in CP, may not be able to accommodate all. Nirula's Outer Circle's top floor remains pretty empty most of time. Haven't been to Pica-Dilli, so dunno how it is. I can't eat spicy food, AT ALL, so I generally stick to stuff I *know* isn't spicy.
Ok, I'll have to remove my name from that list because 5th July is the day when I have my AIEEE Central Counselling. I could however make it if you shift the time ahead by a couple of hours, say, start at 3 pm.
@Apoorv: It's quite possible that people might turn up late and the meet extends. So when your counselling gets over, just give me a call, and then maybe you can come if it has extended? Counselling is at AIT, right?
Sounds fair enough. I'll call you as soon as I'm done with the counselling thing. It's at Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Pushta Road, Opposite Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalya, Geeta Colony,
Delhi-110 031.
