Guided Hike-Scratch & Sniff
Saturday August 20, 2011 from 9:30am - 11:30am
Chimney Rock State Park
Highway 64/74a
Chimney Rock, North Carolina 28720 Get Directions
Use your sense of smell to sleuth your way into recognition of our aromatic plant neighbors of field and forest. With so many sap smells out there, participants will learn through the nose many of these silently smelly plants. Natural history and herbal uses go along with the interpretation on this easy 11/2-hour walk. Park Naturalist Ron Lance brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this series of hikes. Ron is a native plant specialist with more than 25 years of experience growing, studying and teaching about native plants. He is also an accomplished author of several books on native plant species and is a life-long resident of western NC. Who better to show you native plants than a native? All "Off the Beaten Path" guided hikes require advance reservations. Please call 800- 277-9611 to register. Be sure to request our optional hiker's lunch for just $8.95. A hiker's lunch includes your choice of ham, turkey or veggie sandwich, condiments, chips, a cookie and bottled water. We even deliver your lunch to your event location. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and to bring water and your camera.
