Movimientos inject a dose of Tropical and Latino vibes into Brixton’s no.1 destination for roots and global live sounds. Cuban Funk and merged with London flavours from London's new Latin revolutionaries Wara. Slammin new electric high life, rumba and soukous from AJ Holmes and the Hackney Empire and Afro-dub influenced party Hip Hop from Fur. Plus DJ Cal Jader drops the freshest Latin beats and Tropical bass rhythms.
Having played a packed summer season of festival shows and always jumping high profile London gigs Wara showcase material from their new EP on Movimientos Records which introduces the band with four tracks, musically merging Cuban Funk, Cumbia and Afro-Latin beats with Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul and even Dubstep and Drum and Bass.
Wara have created a musical genre of their own with strong Cuban roots, taking influences from Timba (like Salsa but musically and lyrically stronger) and new bands feeding in fun and Afro Cuban styles... A true melting pot of identities, the band members live in London with backgrounds from all over the world, from Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela and Chile to Ghana, Congo, Spain and the UK.
Fur play all live post-dilla conscious hip-hop with beats and instrumentals inspired and riding the west-african, west-jamaican and a bit of east (and west) london frequencies.
And from the depths of Hackney come a band that are taking over the world with the unique Afro-pop sound of The New Electric High Life. They are A.J. Holmes & The Hackney Empire. This five-piece are destroying everywhere they play, the ultimate Afro party disco machine.
