Fitz John Porter, a Civil War soldier, born in Portsmouth, was involved in one of the most infamous scandals of the Civil War. Porter fought for the Union Army at the Second Battle of Bull Run where he was court martialed for insubordination and spent the remainder of his life fighting for vindication. This new exhibit at Strawbery Banke Museum's Rowland Gallery will feature rare and unusual objects, and will look at the impact of partisan politics, government, and misrepresentation on Porter's illustrious career and subsequent downfall.
