Houston Center for Contemporary Craft announces CraftHouston 2006: Texas. Showcasing the best of contemporary craft artists from through out Texas, CraftHouston is the Craft Center’s signature exhibition for the past four years. The 2006 exhibition will be juried by Suzanne Ramljak, a writer, art historian, and curator, is currently editor of Metalsmith magazine. She was formerly editor of Sculpture magazine and of Glass magazine, as well as associate editor of American Ceramics magazine. Past esteemed jurors included – Kenneth R. Trapp, curator in charge of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution (2002), Lloyd Hermann of Seattle, independent craft scholar and founding director of the Renwick (2003), and Larry Rinder, Contemporary Arts Curator, Whitney Museum of American Art (2004). Ramljak chose 52 Pieces, by 29 outstanding craft artists, working and living in 11 cities - Houston, Dallas, Sudan, Galveston, San Antonio, Austin, Katy, Bulverde, Richardson, Lubbock and LaPorte. Ramljak states, " I was truly impressed with the high quality of craft submitted for this very respected exhibition. It will be very difficult to award the three top pieces." Suzanne will present the $1,000 awards and speak briefly at the Craft Center on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 6:30 pm
