Shades of grey Warsnare, Lando Kal, Blacksmif & residents
Friday February 3, 2012 at 10:00pm
Plan-B
418 Brixton Road
London, England SW9 Get Directions
On such a momentous occasion, who better to follow than Lando Kal, purveyor of outrageously tight house mutations for the likes of Numbers, Hotflush & Rush Hour, and half of heavyweight SF anythingtronica duo Lazer Sword (Leisure System / MonkeyTown)? A true one-off, if you haven't seen him play before you've already missed out, and if you have you'll know never to miss out again.

WARSNARE

The latest producer to emerge from the music/art melting pot that is New Cross/Goldsmiths, WARSNARE has carved out his unique sound from the remains of pop culture. Having produced soundtracks for award-winning short films and AV installations, his sound is impossible to pin down, blurring the cinematic and the downright woozy with shards of disembodied R&B, footwork and whatever else takes his fancy at the time.

WARSNARE’s debut EP will be released on 'Shades of Grey' on 20/02/2012. He has remixed tracks for ‘My Tiger My Timing’, Kate Tempest’s ‘Sound Of Rum’ and Breton and is currently producing for singer/song writer ‘Fille De La Lune’ on her debut EP. The one consistent theme throughout WARSNARE’s many endeavours is that it is almost impossible to work out what he will do next.

LANDO KAL

A recent import to Berlin from San Francisco via New York City, Lando's freaked out, eccentric take on electronic music has won him plaudits across the globe. Massive solo releases on lauded US and European labels Numbers, Hotflush, Rush Hour, Sugarcane Recordings and Still Cold, and blazing remixes for Montreal’s Hovatron, San Francisco’s Salva and tribal super duo Sepalcure (Machinedrum and Praveen), have cemented his reputation as one of the scene's finest.

He's no slouch at the controls either; as an integral player in both San Francisco and New York’s underground club scenes he's held residencies with Machinedrum, Praveen and Falty DL. And that's not to mention some absolutely devastating sets performed as half as Lazer Sword, the seminal anything-goes hip-hop-inflected electro duo he started with former XLR8R colleague Low Limit (check YouTube for a taster).

Lando Kal’s personal production journey started over eight years ago, with sample based work inspired by all the Bay Area, weirdo, independent record stores he worked at (including Amoeba) before bringing in more electronics. Dense instrumentation, analog synth and drum machine work, complex melodies, and creeping basslines are pooled from his musical obsessions with 90's RnB, classic house, freestyle, garage, Detroit Techno, early synthesizer music, Timbaland, and… to be honest, everything in between.

BLACKSMIF

Blacksmif's already won the interest of Gilles Peterson, as well as plenty of column & blog inches with his crackling, jazz-tinged approach to bass music. Bringing a warmth which has been found lacking of late, the Londoner's super-consistent and intricate productions expertly weld elements of dub, soul and jazz with atmospheric synths and deftly-implemented drums and vocals. All this makes for spine-tinglingly beautiful, intimate music of the rarest kind. Catch him now before he hits the big time.
