Bay Area Now 5

Bay Area Now 5 is a series of exhibitions, films, performances and public programs which showcase the vitality of the Bay Area as a site of artistic production. This triennial event, created by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts as part of its commitment to supporting local artists, has attracted international recognition for Bay Area artists in the past, helping launch the careers of many of its participants. The fifth iteration of Bay Area Now explores the very definition of what makes a Bay Area artist and what issues and ideas dominate their thinking. Artists in this exhibition explore one or more of the thematic sub-groupings titled people, place, ideas and ideals. The aim is to create dialogue around these issues and ideas through the work of the artists themselves as well as the contexts created through related programs. The insights and understandings discovered will surprise you and change your view of the Bay Area.
