Age Recommendation:
Students, ages 16 and up, who play saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar, and drum set and have some previous knowledge of jazz. Adults are welcome. Younger students with advanced skills and previous experience with Jazz Academy programs and events are welcome as well.
Class Description:Join CAMP Jazz to learn about jazz and American music, explore great jazz standards and play in a small ensemble setting. CAMP Jazz participants will work in sectionals and small groups on songs from the great American songbook and hone techniques and skills, such as soloing and improvisation, connecting with the rhythm section, the importance of the arrangement and stylistic accuracy. Every day, some time will be dedicated to exploring jazz and its history through lecture and directed listening, and composing as a group effort in all styles related to jazz and all its forms.
On Friday, there will be a recording session in the Jazz Academy recording studio followed by a performance at the Columbus Jazz & Rib Fest. More details TBD.
Please pack a lunch and drink – we will take a lunch break each day.
