Manhattan Project's Legacy in Los Alamos: Creativity in Science and the Arts
Friday October 6, 2006 - Saturday October 7, 2006
Fuller Lodge
2132 Central Avenue
Los Alamos, New Mexico 87544 Get Directions
Please join us for our wonderful weekend event, where the public will have a unique opportunity to learn about the Manhattan Project, the government’s top-secret effort during World War II to make an atomic bomb. Throughout the day on Friday, guided bus tours will allow participants to experience the important Manhattan Project landmarks in Los Alamos. Later, a ceremony will commemorate the restoration of the V-site, the first such restoration of a Manhattan Project property.

On Friday night, participants will enjoy a reception and dinner at Fuller Lodge, once the heart of Manhattan Project social life, with keynote speakers including Senator Pete Domenici.

On Saturday, a day-long symposium will feature Richard Rhodes, Pulitzer-prize winning author of The Making of the Atomic Bomb; John Adams, composer for “Dr. Atomic”; Jennet Conant, author of 109 East Palace; and leading historians and veterans of the Manhattan Project. Senator Jeff Bingaman and high-ranking officials from the Department of Energy are also scheduled to speak on the significance of the Manhattan Project and its legacy.

The program is to commemorate the V-Site, where the Trinity Device and the Fat-Man bomb were assembled, and also one of the last remaining Manhattan Project properties in Los Alamos. In addition, the events will recognize progress made by the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the community in preserving some of the historic Manhattan Project properties at Los Alamos.

Tickets can be purchased at Atomic Heritage Foundation’s website at www.atomicheritage.org, as well as at the Los Alamos Historical Museum Shop in Los Alamos, Nicholas Potter Bookseller on 211 E. Palace Avenue in Santa Fe, and the National Atomic Museum in Albuquerque.
