EDGEWORKS Dance Theater
Saturday March 10, 2007 at 8:00pm
Dance Place
3225 8th Street, NE
Washington, D.C., District of Columbia 20017 Get Directions
EDGEWORKS Dance Theater, DC’s first all-male contemporary company of predominantly black men, returns to Dance Place for their sixth season to perform company founder and award-winning choreographer Helanius J. Wilkins' edgy and hard-hitting Cold Case project. Premiered as a rough draft in 2006, this multimedia work with a compelling original musical score and striking set design goes beyond the surface to resurrect the past and present the now. Wilkins challenges audiences to come outside of their own prejudices and fears and fearlessly move into the future with a greater sense of understanding and compassion. The Washington Post says Cold Case “deals with harsh and ugly realities afflicting the inner city” and “makes a formidable statement about racism in America today.” Cold Case is the first installment of Wilkins’ groundbreaking Negro Dance Theatre Project, a multi-faceted work through which EDGEWORKS will carry forward the legacy of black men in concert dance by recovering and preserving history. Co-presented with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Made possible in part by The Puffin Foundation, D C Commission on the Arts & Humanities,; and American Dance Institute through the Arts Incubator Program.
