Pine Cone Festival
Saturday October 13, 2012 at 10:00am
Rim Park District Twin Peaks Recreational Center
675 Grandview Avenue
Twin Peaks, California 92391 Get Directions
The Arrowhead Pine Cone Festival provides a venue for families to enjoy a day in the San Bernardino Mountains sampling sights, sounds and tastes provided by exhibitors, while playing in the Forest. This year’s event will be Saturday October 13, 2012, 10am to 4pm, 675 Grandview Rd., Twin Peaks, CA
The Festival features day-long entertainment, starting off with nationally recognized Mountain Fifes & Drums*. Other entertainment includes bag pipers, group and individual musicians & performers, string trios, gymnastics, martial arts, and dance demonstrations. We will also have a variety of animal exhibits and lots of games for children.
A special attraction of our event is the Pine Cone Olympics. Participants of all ages compete in Pine Cone Archery, Pine Cone Hoop Toss and Pine Cone Shot Put - not as easy as it sounds!
Each year more entries are received for the popular Pine Cone Craft Contest. Winners in various age groups are awarded prizes at the end of the day. From the comical to elegant to abstract, the pine cone craft designs are entertaining for all.
Start looking now for the biggest pine cones you can find (sugar or coulter) for the World’s Largest Pine Cone Contest. Annual winners in each category receive a generous prize package and there is a special grand prize for record breakers [currently, sugar pine: 23.5 inches long; Coulter pine: 4lbs 15 oz. in weight]
The Festival grounds are packed with local artisans, food vendors and various organizations such as the Forest Service and other fire departments (with Smokey Bear!). Each booth must have a forest theme and, if selling products, at least some offerings must be made from or represent pine cones or the forest.
The best part is that admission, entertainment, and parking (with shuttle - thank you MARTA!) are all FREE!
Before and after the Festival, visitors can enjoy Lake Gregory in Crestline and Lake Arrowhead, or head up through Running Springs to Big Bear Lake (Oktoberfest!) and have a terrific full weekend up in the fresh air of the mountains!
