Why is it that every single social network community site makes you:
re-enter all your personal profile info (name, email, birthday, URL etc.)? and re-add all your friends?

Social network portability is the ability to syndicate your profile and friends from the open social web site of your choice to any and all other open social web sites so you can update one site and have your profile and relationships reflected on other sites of your choice.

There are already numerous sites that support social network portability, in particular through sites supporting hCard user profiles and hCard+XFN friends lists.

If you work on a site or software that has user profiles (and friends lists) then come to one of the events on social network portability and learn how you too can put your site on the open social web.
