GROAN! Another trans group?
Hello people,
Yes! My motivation is not to duplicate or compete with any existing group. We in the Boston area are fortunate to have a number of sucessful, ongoing groups and organizations that offer support and social opportunities for the transgender community. Each of these groups has their own appeal, their own focus, their own strengths.
First I'd like to say that as numerous and popular as these groups are, I think that there's room for more! The transgender community here is BIG. I understand there are likely to be thousands of us in the Boston metro area. If a group of 50 are having a party on one side of the city, there's probably ample market for another party just as big on the other side of the city--on the same date at the same time. I don't think anyone should feel threated by competition.
Second I'd like to say that I suspect that even with some of our varied groups meeting different needs within the transgender community, I suspect there are lots of needs that are going unmet.
I'd like to hear discussion and collect ideas on what some of these unmet needs might be. In the same discussion, lets go ahead and recognize thriving examples we know of where a need is being well addressed by some existing group or resource. It's nice to know where we don't need to duplicate effort, and, it's just nice to know what's out there!
Welcome to the party!
Your hostess, Sonia
