A straight up review of The Recovery – a band.
A few reasons why I like this band and why you will too – probably.
1) Their live show is fun, energetic, and danceable (or at least bounce-able). Not only is the music good (easily above average), these guys are also fun to watch on stage - they are having so much fun up there that they make it impossible for you not to have that much fun too. Unless you royally suck and are an asshole.
2) They have movie soundtrack quality songs – the lyrics, the driving inspirationality (yes I am making up my own words here and will continue to do so) of the music, and the singalongability of the songs will make you think you’re in a movie. Something about every one of their songs applies directly in some way to everyone’s life.
3) They have an awesome anthem song. Mandatory for any “kick-ass” band is to have an anthem song. Some kind of shout along with “we will rock you” type tune (Not to be confused with a country music “USA” type chant which is an automatic reason to leave any event).
4) Their music is interesting – Its what I call smart music or Intelli-Rock. Its catchy but not so poppy that its sickening and they keep you guessing while somehow bringing the music exactly where you wanted it to go…without knowing it. Huh?
5) They know how to play to the space and didn’t blow the room away or wash out the levels. Soooo many bands don’t even think about this and I feel this is a good mark of a good band. This isn’t to say their levels are always perfect, or you won’t walk away with your ears ringing, but they do a good job at keeping it to where it should be. And they can reproduce live, what they produce on their recordings – something very difficult if not impossible for most bands.
6 ) They pass the 3 or less times rule. Listen to any one of their songs three times and your hooked. This doesn’t mean any song or band that this doesn’t happen with isn’t good. I’m just saying I like that they’re songs do this. I think it attests to the appeal of their music.
7) They’re authentic – They are not trying to play the part with trendy hip clothes, hairstyles, tattoos or street talk. They are who they are and who they are is a good band.
