BSL Interpreted Tour of the Government Art Collection

Saturday 20 September 2008, 14.00
Free (booking essential)

The Government Art Collection (GAC) consists of around 13,500 works of art, mainly by British Artists and dating from the sixteenth century to the present day. At any one time, some 70 per cent of the Collection is on display in British Government building in the UK and around the world, helping to promote British art, culture and history.

On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September, the GAC will welcome visitors to its central London premises as part of Open House weekend. Tours will take place each hour, from 10.00 am to 17.00, and will last for about 50 minutes each. The tour at 14.00 on Saturday 20 September will be BSL interpreted.

All tours will be led by GAC staff, who will guide visitors through the gallery space, art store and working spaces, providing insights into a selection of the historical and contemporary works of art awaiting display in Ministerial buildings, British Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates. Visitors will discover how works are selected, conserved and transported, and experience a behind-the-scenes impression of a truly unique British cultural resource.

Tours are on the hour from 10.00 (last tour begins 16.00), Saturday 20 – Sunday 21 September 2008
