To run, or not to run

I've been asked by the Missouri Libertarian Party to run for Emanual Cleaver's 5th District Congressional Seat in the upcomming election. They've asked me to run, but offered no structural support, they have no money, they've apparently got no one to help me do so much as create and place signs around town.

I understand that we have little to no chance of winning, but it seems like we are doing more harm than good by running candidates with no support at all, it makes the Party look like a bit of a joke.

I told them I'd get back to them on Monday with my answer. I guess I'd like some input on whether making utterly useless runs for office is really useless, or if there is some greater purpose served by making the showing. I asked the same thing to the Party Chairman here in Missouri who spoke with me, and he really wasn't very pursuasive.

Replies:
Unless Missouri is like Texas in that it is challenging nearly every seat, it's probably not worth your time.
