The Team
Vince Maniago
Vince is so vain his bio wouldn't fit in this limited space, but he is the guy who tries to pull it all together for Upcoming. He also has the amazing ability to finish anyone's sentences but his own.
Joshua R
An old-time Yahoo!, and even older Yahoo! user, Josh is very glad to be working on the Upcoming engineering team since Feb '08 and getting to contribute to this extremely useful tool.
Greg A
Greg joined the upcoming team in early 2008. When not tracking down bugs or complaining about them, Greg likes to eat food and sleep.
George
George join the upcoming team in March of 2008. He is originally from Chicago, IL. He grew up on Chicago house music, East coast hip-hop, and jazz. He loves music, foodies, and outdoor activities. He hopes to make upcoming a great place to find fun things to do for everyone.
Abe
Abe joined Upcoming full-time in July 2008 but had been doing some part-time hacking since April. His biggest challenge since is sitting still during long meetings and not getting lost on the Yahoo! campuses. When he finally finds his desk he likes to hack in javascript and php for upcoming. Abe is already over the web 2.0 wave and has moved onto web 3.0 -- robot-generated content. He’s not important enough to have his own website…yet.
Rachana
Working with Upcoming ....
Alex
I joined Upcoming in July 2008 to work on the front end. Before this I studied math at Stanford, and I've been building websites for years. My hairs have been blond, black, pink, and purple. I'm a fan of the music of the sixties and seventies and also its creators: the Beatles, Yes, Simon, and don't forget Garfunkel. There might have been a few more musicians at the time. I try to copy what they did with my own instruments. Sometimes it sounds ok.
Abhishek
Abhishek joined upcoming team at yahoo on August 18th 2008. He is a Computer Science graduate and loves working with the entire upcoming team. When not at work he loves to read books, listen to music, hanging out with friends and occasionally sing ( While taking bath ofcourse) :)
Founders & Alumni
Andy Baio
A side project turned horribly awry, I built Upcoming.org in my free time and
launched it in September 2003. After its acquisition by Yahoo! in 2005, I moved to Palo Alto to lead the team as we redesigned and integrated Upcoming with the Yahoo network.
In November 2007, I left Upcoming to pursue new projects. You can follow my thrilling adventures on my site,
Waxy.org. I will always love Upcoming, the people that worked on it, and the community that made it so great. Thank you!
Leonard Lin
(I wrapped up at Yahoo! in Spring '08. I've ended up working on the Obama campaign, and my latest project is making photobooths: http://lensley.com/ I had a great time working on Upcoming and look forward to continue to see it grow.)
After snagging User ID 2, it became obvious Leonard was destined to toil on Upcoming, ironically discovering all the cool events that were happening, but not being able to go because he had to work on Upcoming. Since moving to the Bay Area and spending a year in Palo Alto, he's actually accepted that really was giving up, and has now moved to SF proper. In his spare time, he enjoys sleeping on the shuttle bus, watching events he's not going to, and writing profiles in the third person.
Also, unlike some other Upcoming.org co-founders, Leonard can determine the color of objects using only the power of his eyes.
Gordon Luk
After performing surgery on the Upcoming codebase, Gordon enjoys relaxing with German cars, German beers, and Belgian waffles, but not at the same time.
A co-founder of Upcoming, he handles a lot of the technical details behind the scenes, and also can slow the growing of small plants with intense concentration and focus.
Kelsey Parker
The first time Kelsey tried to make people get along on the Internet, she was 12. Helping Upcoming with much the same is just as fun. You may spot her telling everyone why they should join it, because she's got the curious ability to babble in her own language while still making sense.
Brev Patterson
Originally from Utah. Currently a front-end engineer for Yahoo! Local Search in Silicon Valley. Loved the time I got to spend working on Upcoming, they're an amazing team! You might find me at trip-hop concerts or modern art galleries.
Neil Kandalgaonkar
Neil joined Upcoming.org in December 2006 to fulfill diversity requirements for a token Canadian. Since then he has been left alone to type randomly into his computer until he accidentally produces some of your most wished-for features. He's also been known for some AJAX and Flickr API hackery, but has a curiously Web 1.0
website. As a hobby, Neil travels backwards in time to prevent himself from travelling backwards in time.
Prashant Shah
Prashant is a long time Yahoo! who has worked on several Yahoo! properties including mostly recently Upcoming.org. Prashant loves the outdoors and is always searching for / attending / organizing interesting events in the bay area. He believes Life is nothing but a series of mini-events. :-)
Issac Mangold
Issac makes pictures, furniture and occasionally music...he also designed the look and feel for the current state of this web site (with lots of help). Some people like it...others not so much. If you are the former, hey thanks, I would love to hear from you. If you are the latter contact Vince.
