Yahoo Acquires Upcoming.org!

We're very proud to announce that Upcoming.org is now a member of the Yahoo! family. Tons more details and goodies inside.

So, what does this mean for Upcoming? Well, lots, but it's all good. It means that for the first time ever, we'll be able to devote ourselves to Upcoming full-time. And with Yahoo's technical resources, we'll be able to do all sorts of juicy new features that would've been too expensive or difficult on our own.

But what about the scary stuff? Let's go through some of the big questions.

Is Upcoming.org going away?

Are you kidding? We love Upcoming as much as you do and use it every day. The good news is that Yahoo! feels the same way, and they don't want anything bad to happen to it.

What's with the new Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and other legal mumbo jumbo?

All that stuff tells you about your rights and how Yahoo! will protect your information. Take a read through and we think you'll agree with us that having these policies in place is definitely a good thing.

Will I need to get a Yahoo! account?

You mean you don't already have one? Ouch, tough crowd. The short answer is probably, but we don't know when. Everyone learned from the Flickr transition to Yahoo! accounts, and we have no intention of doing it unless it's seamless and easy. Why do it at all, you ask? The benefits for us are huge: tying every Upcoming.org user to a Yahoo! account means that we can then rely on all sorts of badass technical resources within the company.

Is there going to be a flood of events that I don't care about now?

That's a great question. Although we may have much more event data available to you via search and other tools, our main purpose is to make sure that you still get to see the good stuff... events and content that matters to you and your social network.

Are you moving?

Yes, the three of us are all off to the Bay Area and will be working at Y! HQ in Sunnyvale. Purple cubes for everyone, guys!

You guys are big corporate sellouts!

That's not really a question.

Fine... You guys are big corporate sellouts?

If getting paid for doing what you love is selling out, guilty as charged. But know that nothing has changed our ideals, and we won't compromise ourselves because we're working at a large company. We've always been focused on making something useful and used, and we think that working with Yahoo! will make that a zillion times easier.

Are you going to fix my bugs now?

Yes!

There are probably a lot of questions we haven't thought of, so if your question isn't answered, fire away in the comments.
