New Group Interface & Cool API Projects
Please take a quick spin around the new public interface for Upcoming.org Groups! Even though we're mostly preoccupied with preparations for moving up to Yahoo!, we were able to get out some changes to make group discovery and browsing much easier.
We added:
*
Group Tags - a completely separate set of tags, just for groups
*
Group Directory - a complete listing of all Upcoming.org groups
*
Improved Group Listings - now showing members and discussions in the list.
Please
take it for a spin, and
leave feedback on our community wiki! If you have run into any urgent bugs or problems, feel free to leave a comment here and I'll dig back into my code ASAP.
There was also some really cool work that came about since this month's big announcement!
One Search Box to Rule Them All
Pete Freitag wrote a slick
one-text-box search interface to Upcoming.org using the API. You can do location and time-based search, by typing something like 'this week boston' or 'nyc this weekend.' It's an awesome concept, elegantly executed, and we love it!
MT-Upcoming Makes the 3.2 Team
Greg Knauss' MT-Upcoming has been
listed in the "Built for 3.2" Moveable Type Plugins Directory. Congrats, Greg! He's done a fantastic job setting up one of the most polished and well-built MT plugins ever, to make it simple to dynamically show your Upcoming events on your MT blog.
Cool Upcoming.org Widgets
If you run Yahoo! Widgets, check out DeLeon Thomas'
Upcoming-News Konfabulator widget and
Upcoming-Metro Konfabulator widget! They list Upcoming News and Metro-specific events right on your desktop. I can't wait to see what other Konfabulator plugins will be built to use Upcoming.org.
Listed on Yahoo! Developer Network
Our
Upcoming.org API got listed on YDN!
Thank You!
Last, but not least, thank you for all of the support and feedback sent over the past few weeks. We can't wait to get started on more active development next month at Yahoo!, and we would love to continue hearing more from you about how we can make Upcoming.org better.
