Invite Friends, Metroblogging, About You, hCard
Another batch of updates, and some exciting news from Metroblogging.Invite Friends
Invite a friend to Upcoming! We've supported event and group invites for a long time (look for the little "invite" links in each group/event header), but no way to invite a friend to Upcoming generally. They'll get an e-mail, and you'll end up in each other's friends lists. Good stuff, long time coming.
Metroblogging
Metroblogging is the largest and fastest growing network of city-specific blogs on the Web, currently representing 45 cities around the world. We're thrilled to announce that they're now using Upcoming.org for their local Events calendars across the network. For example, click the "Events" link on the right sidebar of the Chicago metblog to see events in the area.
About You
On your profile, you can now write a short "About Me" self-description to tell the world about yourself. Here's mine.
hCard on Venues/Events
For you microformats geeks, we've added hCard information to all our events and venues.
Duplicates
You may have noticed that we've starting weeding out duplicate events and venues from Upcoming. After geocoding our venues, we found a whole mess of duplicates. This is an ongoing process, so bear with us.
Event Homepage
You can now set an official event homepage for events, making that part just a little simpler.

Also, sometimes I get what appars to be a false flag warning of conflicting events, warning me of a conflict even though the event it is highlighting is on a totally different day than the event I'm posting. Ex: when I posted the cybersalon 4/23, it warned me of the seder today (4/13) at the Hillside Club.
Maybe a solution to that is start to allocate moderators to each area to sort out everything - duplications, overlapping of metros, obvious spelling mistakes, tidying up of dodgey HTML in posts? If this be the case, can I be allocated Manchester (England). :P
Oh, and all the work that's been put into the site is great, so dont think it goes without being appreciated. We just like to see improvements.
This is the first step in a much larger effort to handle overlapping metros much more naturally. Expect a big announcement from us about this soon.
