Group Moderation Redesign

We completely redesigned Upcoming.org Groups moderation with a streamlined interface, ability to add moderators, and full integration with your "What's New for You?" sidebar.

Know about Groups yet?

Not only are Groups a fantastic way to share events with people who have common interests, but they also let you plan schedules with your friends and family, maintain web calendars for organizations you belong to, and throw together show dates for your favorite bands.

Those are just a few examples of public groups that are running right now on Upcoming.org. You can create your own Group for anything you like! You can make it public or private, and you can also decide whether you want to moderate all new members and events posted to the calendar.

Ever since we first wrote the original Upcoming.org Groups code in August of last year, we've wanted to do SO much more with it. We originally created a pretty bare-bones implementation during a time when things were incredibly hectic, and promised to come back to it later. That's why I'm especially happy to announce some more new activity on the Groups front!

Moderation Redesign

The moderation process is a whole lot slicker and is geared towards making it easier to collaboratively take care of Groups. It allows you to add more moderators (a necessity for high-traffic groups!), kick, ban, or unban problem users, and fully integrates with your "What's New?" on the right column of your homepage.

For the moderated groups, we know it's been difficult to keep checking back on your Group to see if anyone has suggested events, or applied for membership. Now, whenever any activity happens that requires your attention, the "What's New?" sidebar will show you right away. Remember, you can subscribe to "What's New?" with an RSS reader, too.

Slight Interface Tweaks

We've also changed the interface slightly so you can find out who the moderators are for a group, in case you need to reach them. We additionally show who posted an event to the group now, so it's easy to tell at a glance who the movers and shakers are.
