Upcoming Mobile is back, baby!

m.upcoming.yahoo.com is a WAP mini-site tuned for extremely quick loading and checking of personalized public events and search, all while on the go.

Since we all hate typing things in, Upcoming Mobile just prompts you for your Screen Name, and will take you directly to the information that you'd normally have available publicly.

Since it's a WAP mini-site, it's been pared down to the bare essential use cases of being on the go, including:

  • Immediately seeing stuff in your watchlist for today.

  • Checking out what events your friends are watching for today.

  • Checking future events in your watchlist (to help show friends while on the go

  • Searching for an event to check out

We're open to debate on whether the text-only version is appreciated, or if you'd really like to see an Upcoming logo on top. Personally, I prefer to always err on the side of fast loading (especially if you pay for data), but i'd like to see what y'all think.

Have fun!

Glad to hear. As a suggestion, why not add Upcoming to Yahoo Go's mobile application? Flickr is there. Mixd was dropped. How about a mobile social app?

One of my favorite WAP services just got better! I like that "today" includes events that are ongoing. Would be nice to redirect from m.upcoming.org as some people (me!) had it bookmarked.

mor: Done! m.upcoming.org now redirects appropriately.

Now, we just need to convince the guys that handle the mobile top page to include it...

Cheers for bringing this back speedily, wasn't expecting improvements as well :)

Oh and I like the stripped-back no logo approach personally. For me, mobile access is about super-quick information on the bus to the venue I've forgotten the address of.

Agree with markwheeler about the stripped back no-images approach, but it would be cool to see some colour in there at somepoint in the future.

I just got myself a new phone (oooh - http://www.europe.htc.com/products/htcs710.html) and its the first time I logged onto the Upcoming Mobile site and I think it's ace!

The little ' witty phrase here' feature below the navigation is a nice touch. I approve.
