Aug 13, 2008: Agile in Belgium user group meeting - BV Game at Capgemini Belgium

After our first nice encounter where you find artefacts @ the XP.be yahoo group (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/xp-be/?yguid=346283339), I am pleased to invite you to the second 'Agile in Belgium' user group meeting on the 13th of August @ Capgemini Belgium (http://www.be.capgemini.com/). Please subscribe before the 11th of August by means of a mail to jurgen.desmet@agfa.com.

Topic: Business Value Game

Presenters: Vera Peeters & Pascal Van Cauwenberghe
Both are independent consultants. Vera runs her own company Tryx (http://wiki2go.tryx.be/FrontPage.html), for Pascal this is Nayima (http://www.nayima.be/). Both have a significant amount of years experience in developing software systems, development in all kinds of high-technological environments applying agile ways of working in different flavors and environments. Both have presented workshops at several conferences, invented the XP Game as well as they founded XP.be community.

Objectives: Learn how to assign business value to projects and stories, prioritize and make plans that bring value.

Contents:
Agile teams want to deliver maximum business value. That's easy if the Onsite Customer assigns business value to each story. But how does the Customer do that? How can you estimate business value?

How do you decide between stories? How do you decide between projects? How do you decide between clients?

This session gives you some simple business value estimation techniques that are "good enough" for everyday use.

The session is run as a game, where teams of 'businesspeople' have to make plans for their development team. The goal of the game is to deliver the highest possible business value, like in the XP Game. This game is a complement to the XP Game: how do these 'business value points" on the XP Game story cards get chosen?

Each businessperson in the team represents one (or more) clients who will buy the team's product IF their feature(s) is in the product. The team is going to have to make some tough decisions; the team is going to have to disappoint some clients, because the development team has a finite capacity.

Pascal & Vera provide the clients and their wishes + they suggest the techniques to estimate business value. The rest is up to us.
Agenda:
18.30h Welcome
19.00h Start of the session
20.30h Round up
> be on time!

A big thanks to Bart Reyserhove for the location this time!
Also many thanks to Vera & Pascal for this unique opportunity, much appreciated!

Aug 7, 2008: Cloud computing - how safe is your corporate data? at Samovar Conference Hall

For more info: ceo@ict-eu.com

At a recent gathering of over 70 security professionals, the subject of cloud computing and the issues that it raises regarding the security of our networks was discussed. The forum interactively identified numerous issues that must be addressed within the enterprise to ensure that proprietary, personal and private information is protected when using cloud computing technology. The talk described different types of cloud computing solutions and how they allow information to leak from the enterprise. Other cloud computing issues covered were data ownership, legal liability, verification and validation, virtualization, and e-discovery implications. This talk will describe the results of that collaboration and will provide insight into how security professionals are addressing cloud computing in the enterprise. For example, if your organization is using cloud computing services is your present security model going to have to change?

Sep 15, 2008: Certified ScrumMaster Training - 2 day course at The Harbor Club Seattle

Learn the essentials of working as a ScrumMaster or Scrum team member in this two-day course. While the Scrum Alliance provides a list of core concepts that must be covered in the class, each instructor creates his or her own material, allowing courses to differ based on the strengths, interests, and experiences of the instructor.

This two-day ScrumMaster certification course provides everything you need to get started with Scrum and Agile. One of the largest and fastest-growing agile project management methodologies, Scrum is a simple software management technique that has a small set of interrelated practices and rules, in not overly prescriptive and is able to produce productivity gains for software development teams almost immediately.

Delivered by SolutionsIQ Agile thought leaders, this course shares time-tested practices for managing product backlogs, planning your releases and iterations (Sprints) and tracking and reporting progress. You'll learn how to plan and run Sprint Planning Meetings, daily Scrum Meetings, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives and more!

On completion, participants are registered as Certified ScrumMasters (CSMs), which includes a one-year membership in the Scrum Alliance, (www.scrumalliance.org) where valuable ScrumMaster-material and information are available exclusively to CSMs.
