Nov 7, 2008: Manchester 2600 Computer Security Meeting at Bulls Head

The Manchester 2600 computer security meeting takes place on the first friday of every month. It is aimed at everybody with an interest in computer security, telephony, hacking, phone phreaking, cryptography, internet security/privacy issues and related subjects.

People from all walks of life are welcome, from both the 'white hat' and 'black hat' sides of the computer security world (you might be surprised at some of the people who have turned up in the past). You don't have to be an 'expert' at anything to fit in; however, there are always people about with some expertise in most of the areas mentioned. It's sometimes surprising what information you can pick up for the price of a few beers :)

The Manchester meet tends to be a little different from the other UK 2600 meets; while there is always lively discussion of the above subjects, the meet starts in a bar and we frequently continue drinking till 2am or go on to a club afterwards. The meeting continues for as long as at least two participants are able to maintain an intelligent conversation

Sep 22, 2008: Social Networking Conference London 2008 at Millennium Gloucester Hotel Kensington and Conference Centre

Increasing Internet Community Size....and revenue!

European social networking has now become a point of strong interest to the Internet annd Mobile Social Networking Industry. While few North American companies actively pursue the E.U. market for social networking, we have found that the majority of the attendace of SNC2008 are Europeans. Not surprisingly, the attendees at the event each dominate market share within their spheres of influence for the E.U.

Our annual European Social Networking Conference chose will provide the next European event in London on September 22-23, 2008. While it will cover the Social Networking and Internet Personals business, the event will also focus on Europe. SNC2008 London is for social networking executives that have an interest in penetrating the EU market. Attending SNC2008 London will be:

Social networking business executives
Venture Capitalists
Software & technology executives
Telecommunication executives (including Mobile)
Marketing executives
Social Media executives
Payment processing executives
Internet personals industry business executives
Experts in management, technology and marketing for social networking / online personals with experience with the market in European nations will present. For example, we plan on having a 90 minute workshop covering the SN marketplace in Northern European speaking nations: creating online social networks in Northern Europe, how to attract them to a website and how to retain them. The growing mobile market for social networking in this region will also be discussed.

Similar to the Miami event this two day European Social Networking Conference will consist of morning seminars and lectures, followed by afternoon workshops. The workshops will consist of a series of 90 minute intensive lectures that are designed to improve internet social networking business performance. Most presentations will focus on increasing E.U. web traffic and conversion rates. Language issues, cultural differences, technological developments and preferences for specific European countries will be covered at this event. Dating industry executives, marketing representatives, technology executives, affiliates and affiliate managers all stand to learn a great deal in these workshops and are welcome to interject their questions at anytime. Significant time will exist for networking as well.

This years Social Networking Conference takes place on September 22-23, 2008 in London at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel Kensington and Conference Centre, and precedes the London Ad-Tech Conference, which commences on the following day after our event.

Exhibitors will also be present and all are urged to meet these companies in person to build relationships. Click HERE for more information on exhibiting or contact us at telephone USA +1 (212) 722-1744.

If you've never been to our events before, you will learn a lot while at the same time make alot of friends in the industry. We trust that you will find this event exciting, fun and a great learning experience. I hope to see you there!

What is it about?
Green IT, Innovation, Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, Utility Computing, Portability, Fabrication, Gov 2.0, Cybernetics, Open Source, Social Media and anything else that is interesting

What do I need?
Tent, laptops, wifi, food, drink, coffee, white boards, AV equipment and whatever else you need. You'll obviously need power, so you're going to have to work out how to bring some of that too (solar, wind, pedal etc). With this unconference we're going to be off the electricity grid completely.

Who gets to speak?
Everybody.

Who's in charge?
Everybody.

How did this start?
It was a reaction to Technology of Tomorrow.
They want leaders, we want everybody. They've got the Albert Hall, we've got the great outdoors. They want £750 to listen, we want to talk and interact.

Sep 23, 2008: EconMusic at Natural History Museum

On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 23, we will be throwing a half-day conference in London, discussing the Economics of Music (EconMusic). We will have bosses from labels and the growing crop of internet services in to debate ad funding, “free music”, subscriptions, licensing, mobile, DRM, direct distribution and generally the emerging models for music in the digital age.

We’ll resist the “dinosaurs” comparison, but EconMusic will be held at the Natural History Museum - an impressive venue in Kensington, right in the heart of the district occupied by many of the major labels.

Just a diary marker for now, so save the date. Contact me for programming ideas or rdkotecha AT contentnext DOT com for sponsorship opportunities.

Sign-up will be via http://www.paidcontent.co.uk

Aug 27, 2008: International Conference: Public Participation and Corporate Social Responsibility: from why to how at University of Strathclyde

The need to bring the public into the strategic development plans of major organisations is becoming more of a political necessity with every passing day. For the first time ever, the business and service sectors are bound by both legal and informal protocols of public participation.

There are many commercial, municipal and voluntary sector organisations that need to bring public participation into the heart of their practice. From anecdotal evidence, few would seem to be skilled at promoting that process with any degree of success. This conference, and the training festival associated with it, are designed to address any skill or knowledge gap that may exist.

This conference will attract internationally renowned speakers, those with citizen engagement experience and those people who are spearheading research, policy development and practice in public engagement.

The conference will help delegates to interrogate new and emerging relationships between citizens and corporations. Those in business, banking, legal, government, industrial, the armed forces as well as the public and voluntary sectors (amongst many others) will find attendance stimulating and useful. The principal focus of the conference will be the interface zone between the corporate sector (however defined) and civil society. It will interrogate difficult and new pathways to the future.

This will be an interactive conference. There will be a mixture of academic and practical sessions, keynote addresses and world café discussions. Delegates will be asked to bring a willingness to engage and to problem solve. Additionally, there will be case study presentations and visits to demonstration projects. Wrapped around the conference will be an IAP2 training event for delegates to upgrade their qualifications (should they wish) in public participation processes. This training will be provided by international trainers of extremely high calibre.
