Starting in Austwick ~9:30-10ish on Saturday 11th July. I suspect that we will inspect Robin Proctor's Scar (it was healing nicely the last time I was there), Norber (erratically) / Nappa Scars, Thieves Moss, Sulber / Sulber Nick and return by Moughton Scar and back through the grassy fields.

I suspect that, if the weather is fine, we will make rather gentle progress and the walk would be ~7-8-9 miles. (I'm happy to extend it with a trip onto the top of Moughton if this is a popular option.)

(After we get back to Austwick. I'm probably going to zoom over to Ribblehead.)

we are getting old (says Bruno) and of course we need a drink to accept that fact. But drinking won't be enough for once.

We already found a place but we won't tell you where yet (says Eke) BUT we want something from you this time.

To celebrate our 40th anniversary we invite you to participate in the first ever zfdrinks photo competition with excellent prizes. (Of course you are very welcome to come drink with us, without taking part in the competition)

Take between one and ten photos of the following themes (but each theme only once):

1. 40 (40th anniversary of zfdrinks)
2. bars we had a zfdrinks at
3. a drink
4. pink and blue
5. 3 (3 years since the first zfdrinks)
6. a selfie
7. 6:30 pm or 18:30
8. this is Zürich too
9. your favourite place
10. bathroomshot (selfie in a bathroom with you or more in the mirror)

On the 30th of July, the jury consisting of your trusted admins will pick both our favourite picture and our favourite series (a series consists of at least three different pictures of the ten themes) Teamwork is allowed and encouraged if done under the influence of drinks. All your photos have to be taken after today (9th of June 2009), photoshop is ok.

You can upload your photo(s) to this brand new pool (zfd 40") but NOT to züriflickrdrinks (says Claudi).

We`ll maybe do a group shot at the start and finish if possible for posterity but anything goes for shots you take on the rest of the walk.

After taking in what you will in Millennium Square the route goes on down past the library and left to the Henry Moore gallery where there is a WW1 veterans event from 10.30. You can get shots of Town Hall / library on way. Then off down Park Row towards station and old post office - look out for building detail on the way. Left along Boar Lane( construction, city church, the Bourse, right at Lower Briggate and then follow the Calls.

A chance to take some pictures of the waterfront and maybe the Armouries at the Bridge there. Then back up Call Lane and a chance to take in the Corn Exchange building before making your way up Vicar Lane, through the Victoria Quarter / County Arcade. Through and up to the Headrow and then on back to the Tiled Hall Cafe in the central library / gallery.

You might want to bring kids / family along for the walk - no worries but photographers have to register with email addresss to get full details and entry to the competition / prize element.

No themes to follow - just your imagination - old and new, reflections, street photography - whatever is your whim. At the cafe there will be a chance to grab a drink / bite to eat and share some of your images on camera.

Every year Buttonwood Farm grows several acres of sunflowers as a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Foundation. They offer hayrides and sell bouquets of sunflowers with all proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish. The farm is also well known for their ice cream (including a limited edition sunflower flavor).

There are several fields of sunflowers, and they will cover 14 acres this year. It is really quite a sight. This is one of those events everyone in Connecticut should experience at least once!

Here's a preview:


The fundraising event officially runs from 10am - 4pm. We will meet at 10am to take advantage of the best lighting conditions. Hopefully this will also help us avoid the crowd. The lot filled up quickly last year and is bound to get worse as the day progresses and more people start arriving for the ice cream.

Approx. 12pm - Lunch
You're invited to join us for lunch after the shoot. Please RSVP below to let us know whether you plan on attending and if you are interested in joining us for lunch.
* Your RSVP is important this month! The restaurant we choose may depend upon the number of members joining us for lunch. I will need to call in advance to confirm availability for a group of our approximate size, and will most likely need an exact count shortly before the meetup.

And your afternoon is free!
That will be the end of the official activities for the day. The past several months, more members have been picking and choosing one stop out of the meetup. The sunflowers are the main attraction and will be the focus of our day. Of course you are free to choose your own second stop along the ride home, but there will not be an organized activity.

Fun cycle dash over the exposed sand flats during one of the lowest tides of the year. The ride goes along the beach from the west wall of Shoreham Harbour to Worthing Pier, and beyond (note ride start location and time – it has varied!), or as far as you and your bike can make it.

The ride will set off 15-30 minutes after meeting, so as to catch the lowest tide and the sunrise.

Following August 2007's Low Tide Naked Critical Mash-Up bike ride, the event is clothing-optional.

Time and tide wait for no-one, so if you can't make it to the start, join us en route.

We often go for a skinny-dip in the sea at the end of the ride.

Bring bikes, waterproofs, warm clothes, towels and lights. Remember to thoroughly wash the salt and sand off your bike afterwards. If you're worried about using your own bike, pick a scrap one up from a skip.
