McCabe and Mrs Miller: a collaboration between Victor Krummenacher (Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Monks of Doom) and Alison Faith Levy (Loud Family, The Sippy Cups, Mushroom). Digging at the roots of their rootlessness, these songs sweep out the dark corners of longing, regret, and desire with the intimate wit and wisdom of old friends.

James Maddock: a passionate singer song writer from New York who played with the band Wood and has had music in movies and TV. He is joined by guitarist David Immergluck from the Counting Crows.

Kenny Schick/ArtemesiaBlack: hey, that's Sabine and I! We will be playing some of the ArtemesiaBlack catalog, as well as some of my songs - so you can get your ghost stories and your esoteric, post-modern Americana all in one fell swoop.....

Chris Velan: From Montreal, Canada, a soulful songwriter who blends folk-rock with reggae and touches of African music, an influence derived from his time spent abroad.

This show will be a treat for all who make it, and, as I said, this one means a lot to Sabiné and I, as we need to get our feet into the San Francisco scene now..... so bring yourselves, and bring any friends you think might have fun at this show. The venue is very intimate and cool, and I had some of my favorite shows from days long gone at this venue. I will be on second, right around 9:45pm, but I think everyone
will be worth seeing, so I urge you to come support all the acts, as 2 of them are touring and it would be great to give them a great Bay Area welcome.

Our brains, despite extraordinary complexity and remarkable capabilities, have distinct limitations. The speed in which we process information, our short-term memory capacity and our ability to multitask can all be exceeded when demands are too great. Dr. Gazzaley explains how our brains manage the river of data that constantly floods it, how its capacities can be exceeded, and the consequences of this on our performance. He then presents a fascinating perspective on how our increasingly saturated world of media (e.g., pop-up windows, smart phones, texts, chat, emails), as well as growing expectations of immediate responsiveness, place excessive demands on our cognitive abilities. Failure of both young and older adults to successfully cope with this new environment has an impact on education and the workplace. The talk concludes with a discussion of whether the remedy may be within our own brains or will require modifying societal trends.

The VC Taskforce Elevator Pitch Roundtable is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to network with investors and other CXOs, present their company and idea, and hear first-hand what it takes to raise early-stage capital in 2009. Each of our events has consistently drawn an excellent entrepreneur-to-investor ratio.

If you are an entrepreneur in a startup that is currently seeking capital, and would like to present your best 90-second elevator pitch to a panel of VCs, you must register in advance and have confirmation from the program manager that you are on the list of presenters. The maximum number of presenters is limited to ten.

If you are an investor, come and listen to entrepreneurs' pitches. You never know where you'll find your next deal. Find out how our panel of investors rate the entrepreneurs' pitches; which VCs pass and for what reasons; and which entrepreneurs other VCs want to talk to ASAP. Please let us know if you would like to participate on one of our Elevator Pitch Roundtable or Workshop panels.((During the evening, entrepreneurs on the list will present their pitches to the entire room. Cold War Kids were long said to be keen backers of organic farming, but this was recently confirmed as nothing more than a bizarre rumour by keyboardist Nathan Willett. They have toured in support of Two Gallants, Tapes 'n Tapes, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Sound Team, Muse, and The White Stripes. Their music is heavily inspired by artists such as Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan and the Velvet Underground. Recently they starred in an MTV2 special titled "Cold War Kids Takeover!" They appeared on Soccer AM and were announced as Norwich City F.C. Fans. They were going to tour with The White Stripes for their Icky Thump tour, but The White Stripes had to cancel. They recently played to a sold out gig at London's Bloomsbury Ballroom on August 11, 2008 and will be returning to UK shores to play the legendary Astoria venue in London on the November 7, 2008.

Storyteller Tim Ereneta of Berkely, California, connects ancient stories to modern day life, as he shares classic and forgotten fairy tales, with audiences of all ages - but especially adults.

Fairy tales? Did you say fairy tales?

Yes, fairy tales. But don't expect pixie dust, unicorns, and rainbows. Tim tells the "old school" tales, in all their grim details, where parents abandon their children in the woods to witches and monsters, and happy endings include justice served up with an axe.He's told stories on stages from Athens, Georgia, to Chennai, India. Recognized by the National Storytelling Network in 2006 as a storyteller of major and unique performing talent who has not yet received wide public recognition, Tim brings 20 years of theatrical experience to his performances.

Karin Werner began a life-long love affair with stories when she received her first library card in Cody, Wyoming. Many library cards and story events later, she reaches back into myth and memory to create her own personal style. Karin enjoys telling to a variety of audiences and ages. She is active with the Pilgrim Tellers who tell Epic Tales and has performed at Tell It On Tuesday, Berkeley Botanical Garden's "Spooky Tales" and has appeared as Featured Teller in local swaps. Using her improv and theater background, Karin brings a unique voice to her storytelling. Based in Pinole, she also conducts Inter-generational Story Circles and Memoir Writing Workshops.

ArtZone 461 Gallery is pleased to present in our Main Space the second half of “Six Centuries of Printmaking.” The exhibit provides an overview of the printing process itself and documents an evolution in technique and purpose. Contemporary prints as well as 18th and 19th century examples are included.

Printmaking traces the evolution of media, first made for or available only to the clergy, royalty and upper classes. Early prints were intended for education, certification, and the spreading of information to the masses of uneducated peoples. As time passed, printing became accessible to the general, secular population and influenced the direction of, and created an audience for, both fine art and advertising presses.

With the invention of color lithography, printmaking reached a pinnacle in advertising posters from the late 19th through mid 20th centuries. This show includes Belle Époque French posters of the 1890s to Russian propaganda posters from the early 1960s. At the time, digital imaging barely existed. Twenty first century prints in the show reflect the emergence of fine art presses and experimental approaches.

The main gallery will also show some oil paintings by Terry Thompson. His works depict vintage neon signage and they provide a connection between contemporary and historic advertising; these works also preview Thompson’s 2010 solo show at ArtZone.

ArtZone 461 Gallery is pleased to present in our Side Gallery a selection of paintings and drawings by Bay Area Figurative artists from the 1950s to the present.

In looking back to the Gallery’s roots, the small Side Gallery exhibit showcases work by prominent, first generation artists of the movement such as James Weeks, Paul Wonner, W.T. Brown, Manuel Neri, and Nathan Oliveira. Kevin Bean, Christopher Brown, Gordon Cook, Dennis Hare, Jane Fisher and Kim Frohsin represent a few of the present day Bay Area figurative painters.

Aprylle Gilbert who has been called the Michelle Branch of Morgan Hill, is a fresh voice in the world of pop rock and folk. The deeply introspective music of her debut album Diamond In The Rough quietly screams for attention and is worth a listen, to say the least. Embracing the folksy pop of artists such as Suzanne Vega and Sheryl Crow, Aprylle combines stirring melodies with words of inspiration, joy, and - at times - sadness. In a voice both pensive and sultry that often hints at an underlying self-consciousness, Aprylle takes the listener on a trek that is semi-autobiographical yet familiar to most of us. There is an overall theme of learning to be true to yourself, and the happiness that lies in finding someone who will accept you for who you are. The 43-voice professional level ensemble of the San Francisco Girls Chorus will be featured in concert at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Berkeley on Friday, December 19. Conducted by Susan McMane, the program includes holiday-themed and other music by Poulenc, Szymko, Rachmaninoff, Holst, Chesnokov and others, plus an audience sing-along of favorite carols. The performance will be accompanied by Susan Soehner, piano; Karen Gottlieb, harp; and George Emblom, organ.

Four home season performances, a New York debut, a debut tour to Brazil, guest appearances with San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, guest artists and a new recording highlight the 30th anniversary season of the San Francisco Girls Chorus.
