Conversazioni dal basso (we may translate it as grassroots conversations) is a series of events organized by the degrees in Communication Studies at Università degli Studi di Urbino "Carlo Bo". The main aim of the events is to study and play with social media.

During the Festival weekend several events has been planned:

1) Urbino Geek Dinner (Friday 10 October)
The GeekDinner works in the same way as the BarCamp Unconference: it is a decentralized, self-organized event. We will propose a venue and publish more details soon. Stay tuned!

2) Aca BarCamp (Saturday 11 October)
Adding the academic adjective to a BarCamp may seem strange at first but we love paradoxes. We also love both informality and science. We plan to gather the best Italian Internet researchers as well as some friends from all around the world. If you are interested in the impact of social media on society and you are a bright mind (we know you are :) ) this is the event for you!

3) Blogger Olympic Games (Sunday 12 October - morning)
Olympic Games for Bloggers (details will follow). Just know it will be a lot of fun involving around the small street of a Renaissance town of Urbino

Il Festival di Urbino 2008 è il secondo evento giocoso della serie "Conversazioni dal Basso"

"Conversazioni dal Basso" è una serie di eventi dedicati a riflettere e giocare con i social media. Gli eventi sono organizzati dal LaRiCA (Laboratorio di Ricerca Comunicazione Avanzata) e dai corsi di laurea in Scienze della Comunicazione dell'Università degli Studi di Urbino "Carlo Bo".

Durante il Festival sono previsti diversi eventi:

1) Urbino Geek Dinner (Venerdì 10 Ottobre)
Le GeekDinner funzionano in modo simile alle unconference come i BarCamp: è decentralizzato ed auto-organizzato. Nei prossimi giorni proporremo un locale ed apriremo un wiki per raccogliere le adesioni.

2) Academic BarCamp (Sabato 11 Ottobre)
Aggiungere l'aggettivo accademico ad un BarCamp può sembrare strano ma a noi piacciono i paradossi. Anche più dei paradossi ci piace l'idea di riunire in un ambiente informale i giovani studiosi di Internet italiani (senza dimenticare alcuni ospiti stranieri).

3) Blogger Olympic Games (Domenica 12 Ottobre - mattina)
Giochi olimpici per blogger. Una serie di specialità che richiederanno la capacità di fare rete sociale e di muoversi nello spazio urbano della città rinascimentale di Urbino. Seguiranno maggiori dettagli con elenco e descrizione delle specialità ed uno spazio per raccogliere le adesioni ed iscrivere le squadre o i singoli

What: a 4 day gathering of videobloggers to geek out over video…as well as enjoy the great outdoors of Missouri. There will be NO INTERNET so you’ll actually have to talk to people. We’ll also have our own personal chef making the best food you can imagine.

When: September August 7-10, 2008

Why: because we find that meeting in person is what makes videoblogging worth it. Our goal is to have day long workshops around topics we only talk about online. The secrets of FCP editing, CSS design for blogs, how to tell stories plus tons of fun less organized activities–hiking, vlogging games, etc.

We are very proud that Paulo Coehlo as already confirmed is participation as a keynote speaker for the 2008 edition.

We will again have hundreds of startups presenting, a great line up of world class speakers (previous years include French President Sarkozy, Philippe Starck, President Shimon Peres but also many Internet movers and shakers...) and plenty of networking space, with beds, like last year.
