APT's 40th Anniversary Conference will be Monday, October 13–Friday,October 17, 2008 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Heritage Conservation, the theme of the APT Montréal 2008 Conference, celebrates not only the membership profile of APT but the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of heritage conservation (generally referred to as historic preservation in the US) approaches over the last four decades. It will be examined with a focus on two sub-themes: Sustainable Heritage Conservation and Conservation Technology and Philosophy. Each sub-theme will be the subject of a separate conference track.

Depuis l’été dernier, une grande partie de Montréal a été dessinée dessinée grâce à Yahoo! Aerial Maps, mais il reste un travail de terrain qui consiste en gros à aller noter le nom des rues. On ne peut pas simplement copier une carte existante, car celles-ci sont protégées par la loi sur le droit d’auteur, ou par une licence d’utilisation plus restrictive que celle d’OpenStreetMap.

Voici donc un Mapping Party pour tenter de cartographier la plus grande partie de l’île de Montréal. C’est un type d’événement utilisé couramment par la communauté d’OpenStreetMap pour faire avancer le travail rapidement.

On se rencontrera à la Brûlerie St-Denis le 20 septembre à 10:00 le matin pour faire connaissance, s’entendre sur le travail à accomplir et une stratégie pour y arriver. À la fin de la journée, je propose qu’on se rencontre à nouveau au Bar La Quincaillerie vers 18h00 pour décanter avec une bière. Le lendemain matin, on se rencontrera à nouveau à la Brûlerie St-Denis pour planifier la seconde journée de cartographie.

Ceux qui ont l’intention de participer pourront le faire à pied, à vélo ou en voiture. Je vais fournir des cartes OpenStreetMap imprimées de chacune des zones, de même que des photographies aériennes. J’aurai avec moi un GPS ou deux, mais ça n’est pas nécessaire d’en avoir un. Si vous avez un laptop, ça pourrait être utile pour consulter et modifier la carte OSM de temps à autre, mais avant de l’apporter, pensez que vous aurez à le traîner avec vous toute la journée.

Aucune expérience n’est nécessaire, alors n’hésitez pas à participer!

Pecha Kucha, expression japonaise voulant dire "le son de conversations". Créées en 2003 à Tokyo, par la firme Klein Dytham architecture, les Soirées Pecha Kucha Night se sont propagées sur toute la planète. Véritable réseau international de créateurs indépendants, elles sont une plateforme d’échanges et de rencontres interdisciplinaires.

En effet, ces soirées sont organisées dans l’idée de générer une tribune où les créateurs émergents de tous les domaines peuvent venir présenter leur réflexion et leur processus sur un projet réalisé, en cours de réalisation, ou même auquel ils rêvent encore.

Au-delà d’une simple présentation d’un produit fini, ces soirées visent à présenter un processus créatif. Les présentateurs doivent communiquer comment ils ont défini la problématique du projet, quelles résolutions et solutions ont été appliquées, quelles sont les grands axes de leur réflexion, etc. Ils présentent ce qui les inspire, leur vision du monde et ce que leur travail apporte de nouveau.

Lors des soirées Pecha Kucha, chaque participant a carte blanche, au détail près qu’il est autorisé à montrer 20 diapositives qui se succèdent automatiquement toutes les 20 secondes, lui conférant en tout 6 minutes 40 d'attention de l'auditoire, avant que le prochain participant ne prenne sa place. Ce système de présentations concis permet une égalité d'attention, de garder le rythme et de tenir le public en haleine. L'atmosphère s'y doit décontractée: pendant les présentations, on peut à loisir discuter avec son voisin ou se lever pour aller chercher un verre.

Les événements Pecha Kucha Montréal ont lieu chaque deux mois à la S.A.T. Chaque soirée regroupe 10 à 12 présentateurs répartis en 3 blocs entre lesquels des poses de 20 min permettent à l’assistance de discuter, d’échanger, de réseauter.

Architectes, designers de mode, artistes, designers Web, designers industriels, graphistes, designer d’environnement interactif, architectes de paysage, designer de jeux, urbanistes, graffitiste, …; quiconque aimerait trouver un public à l’esprit curieux et ouvert sera le bienvenu !

Pecha Kucha, a Japanese expression for the ‘sound of conversation’, is a series of show and tell evenings for designers started by Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo. Since 2003, groups have sprung up in cities all over the world (over 50 so far) and adopted the Pecha Kucha format: each presenter has 20 slides which are displayed for 20 seconds each.

The idea is to create an environment where designers from all fields can present (in 6 minutes and 40 seconds) a project carried out, under development, or which they dream to see accomplished. Anyone who has made, or will make, something interesting and would like share with the curious and open minded is welcome.

This is a relaxed atmosphere in which the only constraint imposed is the 20×20 format. The Pecha Kucha meetings are animated, lively, usually even noisy, and the attendees feel completely free to discuss and exchange ideas.

The event takes place every two months at the S.A.T. The presentations begin, of course, at 20:20hrs. On average 10 to 12 speakers follow one another punctuated by 2x20 minutes pauses.

On November 13th, 2008 Ottawa’s top business executives will be trading in their suit and ties for ripped jeans and guitars at the city’s Rock for Dimes event. Bands featuring groups comprised of Montreal business professionals will shake the Corona Theatre to raise money for families living with physical disabilities. The 2007 event in Montreal raised an estimated $15,000.

Qu’est-ce que le Die-in ?

Le Die-in est un évènement symbolique (au même titre qu'un sit-in ou un bed-in), revendicateur et médiatisé à caractère théâtral. Le die-in demande à ses participants de mimer la mort à l'intersection de deux rues. Faux sang, bandages, masques à gaz ou autres éléments significatifs sont les bienvenus. Nous désirons ainsi commémorer les décès, les blessures et les problèmes de santé causés par les véhicules motorisés, de milliers de montréalais(es) et de millions de gens dans le monde chaque année.

Bilan routier inquiétant, pollution sonore, colonisation de l’espace public, pollution de l’air, étalement urbain, fardeau financier individuel et collectif, diminution de la qualité de vie, etc. Piétons, cyclistes et automobilistes subissent indistinctement les désagréments causés par la dépendance de notre société à l’automobile.
