This time, one of the Bay Area's salsa sensations, ORQUESTA SABORICUA, will be Playing LIVE!

This 10 piece band plays some serious Salsa Gruesa (thick, hard, danceable), following the style developed in Puerto Rico and New York by salsa pioneers such as Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto and Willie Colon.
Nothing like some good old school salsa that really gets to your core.

Plus DJ Willi, will be showing his skills with another one of his hot Salsa and Latin music mixes... It's on!

By virtue of his marvelous baritone, easy swing, and deep blues feeling, Jamie Davis has a secure place in the pantheon of great male vocalists. He’s performed all over the world with the likes of Patti Austin, Tony Bennett, George Benson, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Cobb, and Billy Cobham, and for three years beginning in 2000 he traveled and performed extensively as the lead vocalist for the Count Basie Orchestra. For his Monterey Jazz Festival appearance, Davis will be accompanied by a 17-piece big band directed by Fred Berry and features first-call Bay Area players such as Charles McNeal, Aaron Lington, David Rokeach.

Orlando "Maraca" Valle is perhaps the most famous Cuban flautist known today. He was named "a visionary” by “Chicago Tribune en Espanol” 2003, and is considered one of the most popular names in Latin and Afro-Cuban Music, from salsa to Latin jazz. His music is a cocktail of fusion and energy that stems from the most jazziest improvisations to the most danceable elements of Caribbean and popular Cuban music. Nominated for “Best Salsa Album of the year” for 2003, winner of many awards in Cuba, at Cubadisco and in EGREM voted “Best Fusion Album” both in 1999 and 2001. He was also voted for “Best Latin Jazz album” in 1995 and “Best Recording” in 2003.

This specially comissioned project for the festival explores the orchestral, lyrical side of his personality, and it features a venerable who's who in Latin Music - Giovanni Hildago (congas), Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez (drums), Ed Simon (piano), Jon Benitez (bass), Miguel Zenon and David Sanchez (saxes). Also includes a six-piece string section and Murray Low on secondary keyboards.

We will come together from all over North America and Israel as a cross denominational group of young, not so young, singles, couples, and families. Our group will include rabbis, farmers, educators, chefs, writers, and enthusiasts who will teach and learn from each other about food from farm to table. The Conference experience will cover the spectrum of food interests, from health and sustainability to justice, Jewish tradition, spirit, and enjoyment.
