Professional development opportunities for educational professionals abound but it can be a challenge for individuals to organize and manage the information. Many institutions have an open invitation to participate in pro-d activities but it's difficult to find out about them. There are many cases of informal exchanges of expertise across campuses but no mechanism for offering such services. In British Columbia we are working on an Professional Development Collaboratory project to address these challenges. The service will be extended beyond the boundaries of our province, with the goal of developing into the ideal venue for finding out about and sharing information about pro-d opportunities.

Through this SCoPE discussion we hope to build an inventory of exemplary sites, find out how other people have tackled the design of pro-d sites, and learn about various technologies to support what we want to accomplish.

There are two new farms on the tour this year, Swift Aquaculture and Cordine Farm, and harpist Mary Murphy will serenade you at The Back Porch, a small acre farm that grows 25 varieties of garlic and roasts coffee using a circa 1919 Flame Roaster.

ON September 20th, join Canadians for the 15th Annual TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. This national event invites people to participate by removing harmful litter from the local shorelines of ponds, streams, rivers, lakes, or oceans near you.

Vancouver's Kickoff event is at Kits Beach, but other cleanups are happening across Canada. Participating in a shoreline cleanup is easy: choose a location, date and time, and register or join today by visiting www.vanaqua.org/cleanup or calling 1-877-427-2422.

If animals could remove our garbage, they would. Until they’re able to, you can help by joining the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. All registrants will receive cleaning supplies and the first 50,000 will also receive a free T-shirt. Registration ends August 31, 2008.
