Symphonic poem Olympic Sailing Suite isthe first commission work that the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra owns the independent copyright. It's a music piece specially composed by celebrated Hollywood composer JeffreyRona for the coming Olympic. And the American born violinist YangGefang and famous Chinese singer Kang Hong will be invited to highlightthe concert.

About Symphonic Poem
A symphonic poem or tone poem is a piece of orchestral music in one movement in which some extramusical program provides a narrative or illustrative element. This program may come from a poem, a story ornovel, a painting, or another source. The term was first applied to byFranz Liszt to his 13 one-movement orchestral works in this vein. Theywere not pure symphonies in the classical sense because they dealt with descriptive subjects taken from mythology, Romantic literature, recenthistory or imaginitive fantasy. In other words, these works were "programmatic" rather than abstract. The form was a direct product of Romanticism which encouraged literary, pictorial and dramaticassociations in music. It developed into an important form of programmusic in the second half of the 19th century.

Asymphonic poem may stand on its own, or it can be part of a seriescombined into a suite (in the Romantic rather than the Baroque sense).For example, "The Swan of Tuonela" (1895) is a tone poem fromSibelius's Lemminkainen Suite. It can also be part of a cycle ofinterrelated works. For example, Vltava (The Moldau) is one part of the six-work cycle Mavlast by Bedaich Smetana.

Cyprien Katsaris (born May 5, 1951 Marseilles, France) is a Franco - Cypriot pianist and composer.

Katsaristrained at the Paris Conservatory winning the first prize for piano in1969 and chamber music in 1970. In 1970 he won the Albert Roussel Prizeand in 1977 won 1st prize in the Cziffra competition. He has appearedwith the major orchestras in the world and has appeared as recitalistas well. He has recorded for Sony Classical and Teldec labels,including the Liszt transcriptions of all 9 Beethoven symphonies.

Theme Concerts
Eason Chan has held five major theme concerts at the famous Hong Kong Coliseum starting from 1999, a proof of his enduring popularity and his status as one of Hong Kong'smost beloved singers. His first series of concerts at the Hong KongColiseum , a total of four Eason's 99Big Live concerts, came four yearsafter his debut in 1995. BeijingDance/ LDTX Classics is a collection of 4 different works, which demonstrateLDTX’s true scope of perspective and technique. The Cold Dagger excerpt is a climactic 10-minute version of the full-evening work set to a beautiful score by Gorecki. The Eagle, featuring 4 male dancers, is choreographed by a native of Inner-Mongolian. The mesmerizing piece investigates the mystical province of China fraught with history and tradition.

The final piece of BeijingDance / LDTX Classics is set to Stravinsky’s Rite of Springpremiered in 1933, signifying the dawn of a new era in music. Thismusic has inspired many western choreographers, and now, BeijingDance /LDTX’s Chinese choreographers offer their unique version, All RiverRed. The work reflects how contemporary dance has been developing in20th century in Chinaagainst all odds. All River Red shows not so much a comfortable fusionof East-meets-West, but a direct and violent confrontation betweenthose adhering to tradition and those aspiring to innovation.

Objective
Thebirth of Beijing LDTX Modern Dance Company (LDTX) in September 2005 notonly caught international attention, but also captured the imaginationof many artists in China.LDTX (Lei Dong Tian Xia , literally, thunder moves under the sky) wasborn out of a controversial and exciting time in which China underwentrapid cultural change, LDTX is China’s first non-governmental andindependent professional dance company.

Founded by veteran choreographers and a new generation of dancers in China , LDTX is a platform for both contemporary relevant and innovative creations. Li Xincao -“One of the young prestigious conductors in the musical world.”

Li Xincao, born in North China's Hebei Province in 1971, is the resident conductor of China National Symphony Orchestra and the principal conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the National Ballet Orchestra of China.

As an active young conductor, Li Xincao has toured many cities of China and abroad. Besides cooperating with many domestic orchestras, he has frequently collaborated with the National Orchestra de Lille, the Besancon Opera House, the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tivoli Orchestra, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa, the Korean KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Hong Kong Ballet. He has successfully conducted many operas including Madame Butterfly, Rigoletto, Traviata, Aida and Tosca. In the end of 2002, Lin Xincao will lead CNSO to tour in Japan, Australia and Europe.

In series of concerts, he has shown his adaptability to different programs and his correct understanding of different styles of works. He was praised especially for his excellent performance in German and Austrian works and in the new works by the Chinese contemporary composers.

Madame White Snake, Legend of the White Snake, is a Chinese legend, which existed as oral traditions before any written compilation of the Ming Dynasty. It has since become a major subject of several Chinese opera, films, and TV series.

With a combination of peking opera, acrobatics, martial art, dance, and magic show, the performance tells a story of a young scholar, Xu Xian, who falls in love with a beautiful woman Bai Suzhen, unaware that she is a white snake which has taken on human form. A Taoist monk Fa Hai intervenes in order to save the scholar's soul and casts the white snake into a deep well at the Leifeng Pagoda.

The Story is set in the Southern Song Dynasty. Over the centuries the story has evolved from horror story to romance with the scholar and the white snake-woman genuinely in love with one another. An added character is a green snake Xiao Qing who has also been turned into a woman and serves as the white snake-woman's companion and confidante. Bai and Xu got married, opened a medicine shop and lived happily at the West Lake in Hangzhou. When the town was struck by a plague and it was soon on the verge of becoming extinct, Bai and Qing obtained the magical herb needed to help the population. But a sorcerer called Fa Hai believes it is the disaster that demons bring about and tries to eliminate Bai and Qing. On the fifth day of the fifth month, the Dragon Boat Festival is held. It is said the day that demons revert to their true selves. Xu Xian falls for Fa Hai's tricks and fuddles his wife with realgar wine. Drunken Bai shows her true self, scaring Xian literally to death! Bai retrieves the herbal medicine and brings Xian back to life. Later Bai gets pregnant, but Xu Xian falls for Fa Hai's tricks yet again and goes to the Golden Mount Temple. Having battled with Fa Hai, Bai and Qing meet Xu at the Broken Bridge of the West Lake, and Bei tells her husband the truth about her origin and her difficulties after giving birth to a son. Xian is heart-touched and kindly accepts her. The lovers are united.

The plot of White Snake is full of magic: snakes turning themselves into women, monsters, battles among heavenly creatures and demons, and so on. Magic, history, myth, and legend in the opera meld nicely into potent overarching themselves like love and power.

The Peony Pavilion is the masterwork in Chinese drama history and is full of the delicacy and romance of Kunqu Opera. TANG XIANZU(1550-1616),the author, was a great dramatist who lived during Ming Dynasty. He is often mentioned together with the William Shakespeare.

Synopsis

The story takes place in the Southern Song period (960-1269).

Du Liniang, a sheltered, lonely girl of sixteen, dreams of a handsome young scholar. Saddened that he was only a dream, she pines away. Before she dies, she paints a self-portrait and hides it in the garden. Her mother buries her under a plum tree, and a shrine is erected to her memory. Most of the singing and action in Part I is done by the female lead, in melismatic, haunting melodies.

Liu Mengmei, an impoverished scholar, dreams of a beautiful young woman under a plum tree who prophesies that only she will bring him happiness. While traveling, he finds Du Liniang's portrait, and falls in love with the image. Liniang's ghost appears. Convinced of Mengmei's love, she reveals that she is a ghost, but that she can be revived. Braving his own fears, Mengmei opens the grave. Liniang returns to life.

The lively resolution to the story. Mengmei succeeds as a scholar, but not before being punished on suspicion of grave robbing. Liniang is reunited with her parents, but not before her stern father admits that love can conquer death. This final section contains some of the liveliest and most humorous episodes in all of Kunqu.

A splendid performance at the invitation of Beijing Olympic Organization Committee

A choreography by the legendary Korean musician Kook Soo Ho, one of the directors at the ceremonies of 1988 Seoul Olympic

At the invitation of Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee, the celebrated South Korean choreographer Kook Soo-ho, along with his Didim Dance Company, will first tour China to present their choreography Sky Dance at the Olympic Park. And again they will present this splendid choreography at Forbidden City Concert Hall on August 15. Kook Soo-ho said: "Olympic is a peace-themed event, so is the Sky Dance. It will present the harmony of human being through drum assemble.”

Kook Soo Ho is a legendary Korean musician, and his troup, Kook Soo Ho Didim, is renowned for its exemplary presentations of Korean drumming. The troupe is perhaps best known for its performance during the ceremonies at the 1988 Olympics, held in Seoul. The drummers’ ability to essay the harmony and purity of age-old Korean music while simultaneously uplifting their audience is stunning to experience.

Kook Soo-ho Didim Dance Company, founded in 1987 has made great achievements in Korean dance community for the past 15 years. It has been invited to perform in the celebration ceremony of the president inauguration, Winter Universiade, the performances held for the spirit of national holidays, National Sports Festival and celebration performances of social organizations thus inspiring not just the audience of the theater but also the audience of the general public.

A dance artist, Kook Soo-ho, founded Didim Dance Company, which is composed of 35 members and 20 co-members. Through having more than 100 performances abroad and more than 1000 performances in Korea it has been recognized of its outstanding artistic competence, variety and organization. The repertoire of Didim Dance Company ranges over traditional dance and modern dance. And it is the only private dance company that possesses and performs the creative dance, drum dance as well as dance plays.
