New for 2008 is a whimsical, giant, six-handed grandfather clock, which signals the transition to the "Land of Peace and Harmony."

Moscow Ballet continues its commitment to "Celebrating Children…The Arts Can Make a Difference.” Local children in each market will audition to appear with the 132 Russian dancers on the tours. Last year, more than 6,000 U.S. children performed the Great Russian Nutcracker with Moscow Ballet’s dancers, as part of its educational outreach campaign.

MEET THE ROBINSONS
The play is being performed by ten of Knoxville’s most talented young actors. And eight of the ten are performing with CTK for the first time. Alli Acuff plays Cassie Robinson, the oldest child, who is suddenly thrown into the role of “authority figure.” Alli is a rising freshman at Christian Academy of Knoxville. Ten-year-old Will Kersey plays the amateur naturalist and survivalist Jake Robinson. And London Keller plays Ande, the youngest Robinson. At 7 years old, London is CTK’s youngest mainstage performer ever. The Robinsons are joined on this escapade by their cousins, Henry, Billy, and the twins Abbe and Claire Switzer. Fourteen-year-old Mac Bower plays Henry. Mac has performed previously with CTK and Theatre Knoxville. Eleven-year-old Sean Sloas plays Billy Switzer. Sean is a frequent performer at Grace Christian Academy. Ten-year-olds Caroline Dyer and Lauren Krahwinkel play the twins Abbe and Claire. This is Caroline’s third CTK appearance, and Lauren has appeared in several church productions. Michaela Hall, Bethany Moon, and Wheeler Moon round out the cast as children of the Amazon natives. Twelve-year-old Michaela recently appeared in Bearden Middle School’s production of “Once Upon A Mattress.” Bethany and Wheeler are making their stage debuts!

THE CREATORS
This unique re-telling of “The Swiss Family Robinson” is the brainchild of longtime performers and writers, Josh and Meg Beach. Longtime Blount County residents, Josh and Meg wrote and produced many wonderful children’s plays in 1990s for Blount County Junior Playhouse. Since then, both have acted for many local theatre companies and have had a lengthy association with Circle Modern Dance Company, for which they have created, choreographed, and performed. Look for them to bring their knowledge of dance and percussion to this intriguing adventure play! Josh is also a talented carpenter and designer, and audiences will surely love the boat and treehouse he has designed for “The Swiss Family Robinson,” as well as his unique stage design for the production.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Monday, July 6. Reservations are strongly recommended; for example, seven of the nine performances of “Charlotte’s Web” were sold out. * EXPLORE SALSA:
8:00 to 9:00 pm. An introduction to Salsa for brand new students who want to “give it a try”. If you know how to walk, climb stairs and how to count 1 to 8, then you have already mastered many of the necessary fundamentals of salsa dance.

* SALSA LEVEL IV (Advanced):
9:00 to 10:00 pm. PRE-REQUISITES: must know the basic step, left & right turn, cross body lead, cross body lead with turn, opposite cross body lead with turn, salsa/cumbia step & spot turn.

* MODERN BACHATA
10:00 to 11:00 pm. The dance is a four-step beat achieved with a walking Cuban hip motion, and a unique “pop”. The dance is performed both in open position and in closed position depending on the setting and mood of the partners. The basic dance sequence is a full 8 count in a side-to-side motion although, traditionally it was a back and forth motion.
- Modern Bachata (Nueva Bachata) is the new version of the traditional Bachata brought about through the younger generation of Bachata dancers. This style incorporates more free style moves. Originated in the Dominican Republic.

The purpose of not only exposing kids to the different communities, culture and heritage through dance, but also to build a positive body image and self esteem. To increase strength, flexibility and agility, to encourage socialization amongst our youth in a positive and co-ed environment and to develop a deep appreciation of one's culture.

* Salsa I (Beg.)
Sundays 4 to 5 pm. For students new to salsa. This is a step-by-step progressive class for La Style. No partner needed. If you want the extra practice you may take an additional level one series for 50% off the normal registration price. You may also repeat the series for the same discount as long as you re-register.

* Salsa Level II (Adv.)
Sundays 5 to 6 pm. This picks up where series I leaves off. It starts with a brief review and moves on to the next phase of fundamentals. No partner needed.
