Vom 30. Juli bis 10. August verwandelt sich der Platz vor dem Historischen Museum Bern in einen farbenprächtigen Turnierplatz mit einer Tribüne für 1200 Zuschauer. Hier findet zweimal täglich (14.30 Uhr und 19 Uhr) kein gewöhnliches Ritterturnier statt, sondern ein wahrhafter «Pas d’armes» – so wie er zur Hochzeit Karls des Kühnen von Burgund mit Margarete von York 1468 in Brügge veranstaltet wurde. Bei einem Pas d’armes messen sich edle Ritter über mehrere Tage in Kämpfen zu Fuss und zu Pferd.

Nun werden die besten Turnierreiter Englands während 10 Tagen auf dem Berner Helvetiaplatz wieder ein «Pas d’armes» austragen. Bereits vor dem eigentlichen Turnier in der Arena auf dem Helvetiaplatz können die Besucherinnen und Besucher im Museumspark die Turniervorbereitungen mitverfolgen (ca. 1 Std. vor Turnierbeginn).
Burgundisches Heerlager im Schlosspark

Umrahmt werden die Turnierspiele zudem von der Company of Saynt George, einer Re-enactment-Gruppe, welche den ganzen Tag über im Museumspark das Lagerleben im Gefolge Karls des Kühnen auf lebendige Weise und historisch korrekt nachgestaltet.

Selbstverständlich werden beim Spektakel auch Musik, altes Handwerk, Kinderattraktionen sowie Speis und Trank nicht fehlen. Und im Spektakel-Kombiticket eingeschlossen ist auch der Besuch des Museums mit der Sonderausstellung «Karl der Kühne».

EuroSSC was held before in Enschede (NL) and Kendal (UK). Building on the success of the last years, EuroSSC 2008 will include
a highly selective single-track program for technical papers, accompanied by posters, demonstrations, invited speakers, and an
industrial panel.

The vision of ubiquitous computing is that of pervasive but transparent
technology. Smart, **context-aware (wireless) sensor and actuator networks (WS&AN)** bring the vision of ubiquitous computing closer to reality. Emerging smart surroundings, objects and clothing contain networked sensing and feedback elements to infer user's needs and provide targeted context aware assistance. Networked smart sensors recognize context from raw data and/or capitalize on context to optimize sensing. Higher-level context is inferred online or within the network, by combining and abstracting information from smart sensors. Together with networked actuators, context-aware sensing and feedback becomes possible.

This annual conference explores techniques, algorithms, architectures, protocols, and user aspects underlying context-aware smart surroundings, and cooperating intelligent objects, and their applications. Topics discussed include smart sensing, context recognition, and context processing. Of growing interest are methods and principles for context abstraction and processing given a Quality of Context that reflects context uncertainty and accuracy of smart sensors. Principles and methods for context-aware feedback through actuator networks and their applications are discussed.

EuroSSC 2008 aims to bring together academic researchers and industry experts with a variety of backgrounds to explore technology, human, and user aspects:

SUBMISSION:

All submitted papers will be judged based on their novelty, clarity,
and relevance through blind reviewing, where the identities of the
authors are withheld from the reviewers. Authors of accepted submissions will have the opportunity to update their submissions based on the reviews before the final electronic copy is due.
EuroSSC 2008 requires electronic submission. Information on the submission process will be provided on the conference website. Reviewers will be instructed to maintain the confidentiality of all materials for submitted papers throughout the entire reviewing process. Submissions should contain no information that will be proprietary or confidential at the time of publication.

Accepted technical papers will be included in the Conference Proceedings published by Springer-Verlag in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).

Am ersten Forum zu Bern sehen wir zunächst eine Austausch- und Diskussionsrunde mit professioneller Unterstützung aus den Medien und der Vermarktung. Das Forum selbt wird wohl ein geschlossener Event sein. Weiter wäre am Sonntag eine offene Ausstellung der Sponsoren denkbar, die sich hauptsächlich auf die breite Bloggerschaft ausrichten soll. Dies sind im Moment die Ideen, welche sich aber noch fliessend verändern können.

Wo liegen die Unterschiede, was sind die Gemeinsamkeiten? Der MAS E-Government beantwortet diese Fragen und zeigt die Chancen und Risiken von E-Government auf. Teilnehmende erhalten die Kompetenz, IKT bedürfnisgerecht zu planen und einzuführen.

Um E-Government umzusetzen, braucht es Generalisten, die die Herausforderungen kennen - und die Methoden, sie zu meistern!

Die umfassende Ausbildung der FHNW ergänzt die Kernthemen des E-Governement mit Fragestellungen des Public Managements.

Absolventinnen und Absolventen sind in der Lage,

* Verwaltungen oder Verwaltungseinheiten hinsichtlich ihrer ‚E-Government-Fähigkeit’ zu analysieren, Schwachstellen und Möglichkeiten zu erkennen und Umsetzungspotential aufzuzeigen
* strategische Erfolgspotentiale der sich wandelnden Erbringung von Verwaltungsdienstleistungen zu erkennen und in geeignete Projekte zu überführen
* Stakeholder für die Bedeutung und den Nutzen von E-Government zu sensibilisieren und in Bezug auf mögliche Projekte zu beraten
* Denkprozesse anzustossen, die in Verwaltungen zu einem Umdenken hin zu einer transparenten und glaubwürdigen E-Government-Strategie führen können
* Strategien zu entwickeln für die erfolgreiche Einführung neuer (E-Government-)Dienstleistungen und die damit verbundene Durchführung von Projekten
* die Zusammenarbeit der für die Entwicklung von (E-Government-)Dienstleistungen verantwortlichen Fachleute aus Fachabteilungen, Informatik, Recht- und Sicherheit und des Marketing innerhalb der eigenen Verwaltung zu koordinieren und zu leiten
* verwaltungsübergreifende Kooperationen zu initialisieren und durchzuführen
* Beziehungen zu Anspruchsgruppen – vor allem auch zu Vertretern der verschiedenen politischen Organe - aufzubauen, systematisch zu pflegen und aufkommende Differenzen im Sinne eines systematischen Vermittlungsverfahrens (Mediation) zu bewältigen
* die politische Steuerung über die Medien Recht, Finanzen und Information zu erfassen
* die politische Planung über Legislaturschwerpunkt und integriertem Aufgaben- und Finanzplan zu verstehen
* im Bereich der betrieblichen Steuerung, Instrumente des strategischen und operativen Managements anzuwenden.

Der Erwerb des «Master of Advanced Studies in E-Government» ist innerhalb von zwei Jahren möglich. Das Studium umfasst vier Komponenten. In den ersten beiden Semestern E-Government Basis- und Expertenwissen vermittelt, das dritte Semester ist dem Thema Public Management gewidmet. Das Studium wird abgeschlossen mit einer Masterarbeit im vierten Semester.

Das Studium umfasst insgesamt 60 ECTS Credits mit total 72 Kontakttagen. Jedes Modul wird mit einem Leistungsnachweis abgeschlossen, die Abschlussarbeit (Masterthesis) ist mit 15 Kreditpunkten veranschlagt.

Nächster Kursbeginn ist Montag, der 8. September 2008. Unterrichtstage sind jeweils Montag und Dienstag im 14-tägigen Rhythmus.

Das Studium «Electronic Government» (E-Gov) richtet sich an Kaderleute der öffentlichen Hand, die ihr verwaltungsspezifisches Know-How erweitern und sich profundes Wissen über E‑Government aneignen wollen.

Angesprochen sind vor allem:

* Interne und externe Beraterinnen und Berater von Öffentlichen Verwaltungen
* Führungskräfte, mittleres Kader aus Gemeinde-, Kantons- und Bundesverwaltung
* Fachleute aus den Bereichen Informatik und Organisation

Da wir um die zunehmende Schwierigkeit einer umfangreichen Ausbildungsplanung wissen, ist das Studium modular aufgebaut: Nach ersten beiden Semestern kann mit einem DAS (Diploma of Advanced Studies) abgeschlossen werden. Ein Wiedereinstieg für den Erwerb des Master-Titels ist innerhalb fünf Jahren möglich.
