For the first time in decades, North Carolina can be the state that puts a Democrat in the White House. Senator Obama's message of change has resonated with Tar Heel voters, but his campaign needs all the help it can get as it fights against a Republican smear campaign of truly epic proportions. A representative from the Obama-Biden campaign will be on hand to share with us Senator Obama's vision for America and to tell us how we can get involved with the campaign.

Suggested contribution amounts: $25, $50, $75, $100, $200 -- and/or a firm commitment to volunteer with the Obama-Biden campaign between now and Election Day!

BABYSITTING WILL BE PROVIDED! So bring the kids and learn how you can help turn North Carolina blue for Barack Obama on November 4th!

There's a lot at stake this election season, and the Obama campaign is going to need funds right up until Election Day. Sarah and I will be throwing an ObamaQ on Sunday, Oct. 12th, from 2:00-5:00, and we hope you can join us! It will be a potluck cookout--bring something to grill, and bring some money to give to the Obama-Biden campaign. If you don't have money to give, come anyway, because this is not just going to be a cookout-fundraiser, it's going to be an AUCTION! It will be an opportunity for all of us to auction our skills/time/goods to others in the community and raise money for Obama!

So, we aren't just looking for folks to attend, we are hoping that everyone will contribute an item or skill to the auction! Here are some examples of things that we are talking about:

dancing lessons
cooking lessons
gardening consultation
dogsitting/babysitting/housesitting time
heavy lifting
repair expertise
knitting lessons
"green" consultation
fashion consultation (What Not To Wear!)
carpooling time
portrait drawing/painting
photography

or goods that you may have:

homegrown veggies
homemade cakes
clothes
gift certificates to local businesses
...anything cool that you might have/make/want to auction off!

This is a way to make the fundraiser more fun, and also a way to bring our community together, exchanging our skills as we get to know each other. You never know when we might need each other in a Depression economy! (But we're going to do everything we can to elect Obama-Biden to prevent that from happening, if possible!). A silent auction will be held for the goods, and the skills will be auctioned off in a live auction.

Please join us at our house, 512 Whitaker Street, Chapel Hill, NC. Call either me (919-360-1838) or Sarah (919-923-1858) or email us and let us know what you would like to auction off, and if you can make it, or just show up! Bring your friends! Bring your friends' friends! Let's all get together and eat and drink and share what we can do!

GETTING THERE: Please walk or bike! Car and bike parking is at the municipal lot on the corner of Rosemary and Sunset. From there, walk east on Rosemary one block (away from Carrboro, towards Mama Dip’s) and take a left on N. Graham, which ends into our house. Walk around to the right of the house into the back yard.

There is a small amount of parking available on the left side of Graham as you head towards our house. Do *not* park on Whitaker. The driveway will be used for pickup of large items and such.

BRING: food to grill, a side or beverage to share, and a chair to sit on. We will provide some food, sides, and drinks. You get super bonus points if you bring your own reusable plate, utensils, and or cup (super bonus points not redeemable for auction goods or services, just a big smile from your hosts and the knowledge that you are reducing waste).

AUCTION ITEM DROP-OFF: Saturday, October 11th, from 4 pm to 6 pm. If that won’t work, please contact Amy at amyth71@gmail.com to arrange another time.
