Eliza Shefler and Berkeley Art Center host Rhythm & Muse, an open-mic/performance program open to musicians and writers from all walks of life. Many participants are new to the experience of performance and flourish in the supportive environment of the quiet and peaceful gallery at the Berkeley Art Center. Music often accompanies poetry so that listeners hear and feel the way these two mediums enhance each other. The presence of the centers current visual art exhibition adds to the depth of the experience. Regular participants are strongly encouraged to become members of the Berkeley Art Center, and can join on-line through our membership page. Rhythm & Muse receives the generous support of many volunteers that help with set-up and program logistics.

Description: In our new, but popular 1/2 day workshop format, Fotovision is offering the opportunity for workshop participants to go out on an informal shoot with professional photographers and learn by doing.    

In this workshop with acclaimed local photographer Bill Owens, participants will have the opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional in the fields of photojournalism, documentary and fine arts. The workshop will involve meeting at the office for a short pre-shoot meeting, followed by a group exercise photographing in the local area and ending with a discussion and opportunity for questions and answers.  

It is incredibly illuminating to learn from actually shooting with another photographer and to see through their eyes. In this workshop participants will not only be able to observe Bill's style and approach to photography, but also ask questions regarding his professional experience as a photographer. Bill is always a delight, very provocative and will playfully challenge you to extend yourself artistically. A dynamic and action oriented method of learning, this workshop is guaranteed to be fun and get you out shooting.

Just in time for Hanukkah! Hal Dresner, author of the new children's book "The Amazing Menorah of Mazeltown," will be reading signing copies.

Hal Dresner and Joy Fate live with their eight-year old inspiration, Grace, in Ashland, OR. Hal's screen credits include several films including Cool Hand Luke and episodes of “M*A*S*H.” Joy has been a Disney and television promo writer.

"The Amazing Menorah of Mazeltown" is about Mazeltown, in the Cry-Me-a-River valley. It was a dreary village on the dark, cold days leading up to Hanukkah. Just as the holiday was to begin, Molly and Max stumbled on a most curious object in a dim corner of their father's junkshop. It was old and grimy, but after they polished it a most amazing menorah emerged, a menorah that, night by night, changed Mazeltown---brightening the streets, whitening the sheets, lofting the bagels, making the river glow with life and lighting up everyone's heart. This is a magical book with beautiful illustrations that tell a new tale about Hanukkah.

Threatened when the family decides to bring on extra help, she engages in a series of increasingly frantic acts to hold on to her position in this sharp comedic drama about family, class and self-discovery.
The film’s running time is 95 minutes; it is not yet rated.
