Birds in the Woods recently released its debut full-length, Some Thing Knew?, which provides listeners with a full palette of BITW's imaginative-eclectic, often funky, always soul-searching sound. Lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist George Woods brings listeners along on a journey exploring all the little pieces and moments of life. Backed by Sue Buzzard on violin, Tyreek Jackson on bass, and Massimo Buonanno on drums, together the band provides a rich atmosphere of engaging improvisational sound. The band is even known to make up full songs from scratch on stage.

Ferrous Wheel formed its neo-funk sounds out of a need for serious groove. Made up of Berklee alumni and current students, Ferrous Wheel is quickly emerging as one of Boston's top funk bands. Lodged into the hip-hop scene in 1990, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (born Teren Delvon Jones) started by writing lyrics for his cousin Ice Cube's crew, The Lench Mob at the age of 18. From contributing to other people's albums, Del was able to create his first album, 'I Wish My Brother George Was Here,' in 1991. Other albums gave way to various elements of experimentation, such as 1994's 'No Need for Alarm,' 1998's 'Future Development' and his 2000 effort, 'Both Sides of the Brain.' Del has also collaborated with the Automator and Kid Koala as Deltron 3030.

Jack's mother sends him to sell Bessie the cow. Jack goes off on his journey to sell his beloved friend and along the way his path crosses with a very friendly Butcher, Little Bo Peep who has lost her sheepy and Gary Gnome of the Gnome television shopping network. Gary and his assistant Dot buy the beloved Bessie and Jack is on his way. But wait, Bessie escapes when she learns that Gary and Dot have dinner plans -- her! Meanwhile back at Jack's house, his mother discovers what he has done and throws out the useless beans. Bessie returns and all is well. Later that night Jack sneaks up the enormous beanstalk that has grown from the thrown beans and meets Rupert the giant, his goose that lays the golden eggs and the magic music box that plays the funky chicken. Jack steals the goose and music box and suffers the giant's wrath. In the end it is revealed that Rupert is actually Jack's long lost father and everything including the beanstalk belongs to the family.

The Roots Quartet includes the duo Bethany and Rufus (Bethany Yarrow and Rufus Cappadocia), along with Fulani flutist Yacouba "Denke Denke" and Afro Haitian drummer 'Bonga' Jean-Baptiste. "Live A Fip" was released in Europe on October 22nd as a co- production with Radio France and Daqui Records.

One reviewer describes "Live A Fip," as "like nothing you've ever heard before. Styles from everywhere and anywhere come together seamlessly. One hears distinctly Afro-Cuban rhythms pop under driving bass lines, folksy lyrics and screaming flute. "Death Don't Have No Mercy" is particularly characteristic of this mixing and meshing. The cello is inescapably funky, the bongos complexify the rhythms, the flute line seethes with fiery reverberance, and Bethany's vocals lament the world in a way that only American folk music can."

Bethany as the daughter of legendary 60's Folk singer Peter Yarrow (Peter , Paul & Mary) draws from the many songs that her father collected as part of the seminal folk movement of the 60s. Yacouba has dug deeply into the folkloric Hausa, Djerma, Peul and Songhai traditions of Niger and Bonga is the descendant of a very rich lineage of Vodou ceremonial drumming and song. Bonga has also traveled extensively through Haiti collecting and learning the different manifestations of Haitian song and folklore. Rufus has taken the cello into previously unknown realms and is noted for his collaborations in African, Arabic, and American music forms and also has a solo CD Songs for Cello on the Daqui label. Individually all of the members of the group have been instrumental in expanding the role of traditional forms in their respective musics. It is with this background that they have come together to create a sound that although based around the song forms of American traditional music reaches back to a common root that has inspired everyone involved.

Black Friday, Jimi Hendrix's Birthday, and Stereo Freakout's debut CD release party!

SFO plays a blend of hard rock and funk with splashes of jazz, metal, ska, and slap guitar. Big influences are Primus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Alice in Chains, Faith No More, the Police, and King Crimson, just to name a few. Songs range from funky and danceable one track to heavy, rocking and driving the next. Songs like "The Way" blend a rocking intro with heavy slap-bass coupled by a lyrical vocal flow, while "Black & Blue" captures a laid-back leisurely groove with a heavy and melodic chorus. "Break Me", one of SFO's heaviest numbers, spotlights the incredible and almost unbelievable finger prowess of Mike Sopko, allowing him live to traverse an intense musical journey that sets the audience's heart racing and is never the same twice. Bassist Ethan Rider's driving funk and jazzy lines, "Infamous" Dave Jones pounding and original rhythms, and vocalist/rhythm guitarist Jym Murry's slap-guitar antics and interesting vocal stylings make this band one of the newest Bay Area sensations and acts not to be missed! Also appearing tonight will be Sam Johnson from local bands Paradise and Handsome Rovers to make this show extra memorable...

Since winning the Gorilla Productions Battle of the Bands Finals in June 2009, the Cleveland-based company is headlining SFO for this 10 band, all-ages showcase. Nuck Fu, the funky/rockin' highschoolers from Berkeley co-headline the night, and this will apparently be their last and farewell show as "Nuck Fu"... Hope to see everyone out for this incredible gathering of local talent!

FLASHING LIGHTS is the neon brainchild of some of the city's most beloved selectors: DJ AYRES (responsible for 7+ sweaty years of The Rub parties at Southpaw), NICK CATCHDUBS (remix/mixtape phenom and co-founder of the hit indie label Fool's Gold) and JUBILEE (BK bass sweetheart behind her own newly minted Nightshifters imprint).

In only a few short months, the FL trio have laid down their party as a true Friday night destination, thanks to exciting and unpredictable sets blending brand new music and revitalized dance classics. With guest appearances on the decks from big name friends (A-Trak, Klever, Drop The Lime), local heroes (DJ Dara, Egg Foo Young) and rising talent (La Roux, Nadastrom, Nacho Lovers), each edition has brought new musical delights. By teaming up with party promoters Mean Red and Good Peoples, the team has been able to switch up venues from one electric spot to another, keeping the crowd bumping in giant clubs, underground lounges and hijacked dim sum restaurants alike. **Ken Vulsion (HONEYSOUNDSYSTEM): As a founding member of San Francisco's premiere Heavy Disco Dance collective - HONEYSOUNDSYSTEM - Ken & the rest of the crew (currently Peeplay, Jason Kendig, Robot Hustle, Josh Cheon & Derek Bobus) have recently celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of their amazing, always-exciting FREE Sunday Paradise Loft Party. They are also the "sister" party of London's Horsemeat Disco. Recently, they were awarded 2009's Goldie Award for Best Local Music by the San Francisco Bay Guardian! Ken recently was asked to do a mix for Tim Sweeny's oh-so-hot Beats In Space radio show (http://www.beatsinspace.net/playlists/470) and has been pivotal in unearthing previously-unreleased Patrick Cowley tapes - with the "Catholic" EP being the first in Stefan Goldmann and Finn Johannsen's Prototypes series on Macro Label.

It's that time again! Join us for our 2nd ANNUAL NEW YEAR'S BASH! We had a phenomenal time last year at our mansion party... only downside was we had a 200 person max capacity and sold out too early!

SO, we've moved to a much larger and very luxurious venue....the Harman Center for the Arts, home of the Shakespeare Theatre Company. This is a beautiful venue in the heart of Chinatown, right across from the Chinatown Metro Stop. You've probably all seen it coming out of the Metro- modern, sleek, with the frontside made entirely of glass. This place glows at night!! See the pics below:

Throughout the month we will be collecting canned food donations to deliver to the DC Food Kitchen for Thanksgiving weekend. So come out, bring a can or two of food and have a good time helping those who need it. Its getting cold outside and there are too many hungry people among us, lets see what we can do.

For over Twenty years he has brought his vigorous style and enthusiastic stage presence to events throughout North America and Brazil. Sonny Cheeba co-founded OSM Records, which was formed in 2000. DJ and Music label in Washington D.C. OSM first release, “Walking on Pennsylvania Avenue”. In Washington D.C DJ Sonny Cheeba residencies have included 18th St. Lounge, Ozio’s and Fly Lounge. Sonny Cheeba has appeared at leading venues in Washington D.C.,Denver, New York City and Brazil.

Arsam (Sammy K): ( House DJ, Producer)
Currently, he has several major productions and remixes underway that incorporate the wide world of Deep, Funky, Tech, Electro and Progressive House. In addition to Arsam’s production skills, he has also held residencies at two of Washington, DC’s infamous House Clubs including the former Dragonfly and Club Five.

Javier Miranda: (Vocals, Congas, Producer)
Javier has toured with Thievery Corporation for several years and plays weekly with See-I at 18th Street Lounge. He has toured internationally with several well know acts over the last 15 years. His skills on percussion are what sets him apart from the pack, he is nothing short of amazing and his resume speaks volumes.
