Seattle, Washington - Reuniting on stage after 15 years are Kaweh and Seattle based singer-songwriter Holly Phillips. Holly was recently featured on the “Barack Obama” documentary, “The Man and his Journey”. She has shared the stage and recorded with such artists as, Babatunde Olatunji, Mickey Hart, Matt Cameron, Scott Mercado and Patrinell Wright. Teen sketch comedian Jeremy Shum will be trying out for American Idol 2010, in which he hopes to "forever replace William Hung as the iconic Chinese singer". The controversial radio host who is currently completing studies in Engineering Management, has been welcomed by Simon Cowell, who admits he won't put up with any "funny business", and not consider Shum's previous success in the comedy industry. "It's not a laughing matter", Cowell says, "but if he can sell, we'll have him". Executives of American Idol 2010 look forward to a huge and successful year.

Jeremy Shum has not yet indicated which song he is going to sing, but it is unlikely he will be doing the usual parody from his Miley5! Weekly show. Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Alyson Stoner songs seem to be apart of his consideration, but we won't know until the auditions.

So far, about 4500 species of flowering plants has been documented. About 46 species and 10 subspecies of Rhododendrons grow largely wild in Bhutan and most of them blossom during the months of April, May and June. When the sounds of bagpipes start wafting through the air you know it is time for Graeme Park’s 13th annual Celtic Heritage Festival featuring music, dance, vendors, food, and more. The 18th century residents of Graeme Park—the Keiths, Graemes, and Fergussons—all called Scotland home, and it is in their honor that we hold this annual fundraiser.

The entertainment includes the Hooligans performing rocking versions of Irish and Scottish music; Carl Peterson performing traditional tunes from Scotland, Ireland, and England; the Martin Family Band, who combine Irish fiddle tunes with step dance routines; Wireharp, whose performance features harp music, storytelling, and other traditional instruments; the Timoney Irish dancers performing step and clog dance routines; Bucks Caledonia and MacGregor pipe and drum bands; Now and Then; and the Wild Irish Roses. Our children’s area features games and crafts, a moon bounce, pocket lady, and The Kilted Juggler. A wide variety of vendors will be on hand with quality gifts and crafts, silver, jewelry, t-shirts, pottery, and other items. When you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve dropped, food and refreshments, from Frank Donovan’s traditional bridies and meat pies, to hoagies, water ice, hot dogs, and ice cream, will be available to refresh yourself for the next round of activity - perhaps a tour of the historic Keith House, or just relaxing in the shade and enjoying the entertainment again.

The Celtic Heritage Festival is being held on Saturday, July 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults (18-64), $10 for seniors (65+), and $6 for youth (6-17), and $30 for families (two adults and accompanying children).

The event is being put on by the Friends of Graeme Park, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The Governor Keith Society sponsor is the Days Inn, Horsham. Money raised by The Friends of Graeme Park at this and other events, supports the operations, educational programs, and preservation of Graeme Park, a National Historic Landmark.

Half Dome (8,842 feet) is the signature landmark of Yosemite National Park. Few summits rival this giant granite peak when it comes to panoramic stargazing and sunrise views. A hike to Half Dome is a once in a lifetime adventure not to be missed, and a personal challenging achievement with a round-trip hike time of 10 to 12 hours.

The strenuous hike to Half Dome is perfect for photography and nature lovers.

This 14.2-mile hike to Half Dome gains more than 4,800 feet of elevation. At the base of Half Dome, grab giant cables to climb the last stretch up Half Dome's peak to a once-in-a-lifetime sunrise view. Marvel at the starry skies and the beauty of the sunrise.

The first four miles the trail climbs out of Yosemite Valley and up to Vernal Falls, then Nevada Falls offering stunning views of both waterfalls. The next four miles climbs through meadows, then up granite rock stairs with views of the high Sierras, then up the infamous cables of Half Dome.

Trip Agenda:

1pm Meet to carpool to Yosemite National Park
530pm Arrive at Curry Village
730pm Pre-hike briefing
8pm Begin hike
2am ETA base of Half Dome and rest
520am Climb Half Dome cables when there's sufficient light
540am to 830am View Sunrise, eat breakfast and explore summit
830am Begin descend
230pm Arrive at Curry Village, rest/nap, shower, drive home

$90 trip fee includes:

+ pre-trip meeting injury prevention coaching; Mission Peak conditioning hike
+ pre-trip orientation, what to bring: trip gear suggestions and safety checklist
+ park entrance fee ($20)
+ trip hiking guide

Registration payment is due at the conditioning hike/pre-trip meeting with a personal check; a receipt will be provided . Other expenses not specified above such as ridesharing cost, food, etc. are not included. Carpool/ride-share will be arranged.

The concert features excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Patience” and Chinese opera “Legend of the White Snake” (Sung in Chinese with English translations) by Taiwan composer Hsu Chang Wei. “Patience” is a light hearted operetta, a satire of the Aesthetic Movement in the late 19th Century Britain. “Legend of the White Snake” is a musical adaptation of the well-known Chinese myth, in which the white snake turned herself into a human for her love, and eventually sacrifices herself for her family.

The concert will also feature other choral works including the seldom-performed suite of Serenades by Mozart, “The Snow” of Elgar and “The Art of Ground Round” by P.D.Q. Bach.

About Conductor and Music Director, Stephanie Chan:
Stephanie Chan earned her Bachelor of Music Degree summa cum laude from San Francisco State University in 1982. During Stephanie’s tenure as Music Director (1983-1993), the choir of St. Paul's Co-educational College was chosen as the Best School Choir in Hong Kong for ten consecutive years. It also won the Gold Award in the Third International Music Festival held in Australia. Prior to her return to the Bay Area in 1996, Stephanie was a Lecturer in Voice at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Head of Musicianship Department of the Junior School at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts. As a singer, Stephanie has given solo recitals and has performed in opera productions both in California and in S.E. Asia. She is particularly noted for her interpretation of Mozartian roles and German Lieder. An experienced music teacher in voice and piano, Stephanie is now teaching in Milpitas.
