The concert will include beloved carols where the audience will be invited to join in the singing.

Saturday's December 5th concert will be performed at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, 1801 LaCassie (off California), Walnut Creek. This venue is wheel-chair accessible.

The Saturday performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday performance at 3 p.m. Director Shulamit Hoffmann will give a pre-concert talk half an hour before each performance. A reception with a holiday market will follow each show.

Fresh from a concert at Carnegie Hall, Viva la Musica! will offer Bach's Magnificat as its featured work. Soloists will include Deirdre Lobo D'Cunha, soprano; Casie Walker, soprano; Elspeth Frank, contralto; Corey Head, tenor; and Jordan Eldridge, bass. High-spirited lighter songs of the holiday season with a visual arts presentation will round out the program.

Tickets for balcony and main floor seating are set at $30, preferred; $25, general; $20, seniors; $15, students. They are available online at www.vivalamusica.org or at 650-281-9663.

In 1876 Edvard Greig wrote the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s play ‘Peer Gynt’ and many of the pieces became very popular as piano concertos and orchestral suites. The words are by Ibsen and are sung in Norwegian.

Partsongs are harmonised melodies written for a full choir during the nineteenth century. The programme comprises songs by Edward Elgar, Arthur Sullivan and Charles Wood.

The conductor is Richard A. Smith and the Organist is David Groves.
