BET HIP HOP AWARDS. Leading the pack is the
"Lollipop man" Lil' Wayne with an astounding 12
nominations, followed by Kanye West with 8 nods

This years' BET HIP HOP AWARDS will be the
preeminent hip-hop event of the season! Hosted

Showcasing past and present music Icons. this
year's BET HIP HOP AWARDS takes the competition
to a whole new level with scheduled appearances by a
slew of hip hop heavyweights including GZA, Wu-Tang
Clan, Raekwon, Masta Killa, U-God, Inspectah Deck
and RZA. Adding to the hype, rapper Jadakiss will pump
up the crowd as celebrity announcer, while the famed
DJ Drama spins all night. A special tribute will also be
paid to female pioneers in hip hop who have paved the
way for women in a predominantly male industry.

Last year's BET HIP HOP AWARDS drew an impressive 2.5 rating, which translated into 3.3 million viewers and was the #1 hip hop themed telecast on TV for the second consecutive year, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Actor/Comedian Katt Williams Returns as Host for the
Third Annual 'BET HIP HOP AWARDS' Premiering
Thursday, October 23rd at 8:00 P.M.*

The third time is a charm for BET as actor/comedian Katt
Williams returns to host the third annual BET HIP HOP
AWARDS. Taping on Saturday, October 18th at the
Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta, this
exciting primetime special will pay homage to urban music
and culture, and will premiere on the network on Thursday,
October 23rd at 8:00 p.m.* Performers, nominees and show
talent will be announced later this month.

Known for his signature permed hair and over-the-top style,
actor/comedian Williams has become a true comedic force
in entertainment, and appeared on popular BET shows like
COMIC VIEW, THE BLACK CARPET and 106 & PARK, as
well as at events such as RIP THE RUNWAY, the BET
AWARDS and THE COMEDY AWARDS. He has received
an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and
continues to receive stamps of approvals from the urban and
mainstream community alike for his brilliance and ingenuity
on screen and on stage, including being named "hottest new
comedian" in Rolling Stone magazine, as well as praise from
African American comedic icons such as Steve Harvey, who
says, "He's one of the hottest comedians in the country."
Williams recently completed his 100-city national tour, and
will release his It's Pimpin Pimpin DVD on Tuesday, Nov.11th

This year the event goes outreach. The conference will feature key practitioners from other areas of the creative arts, and ‘collide’ them with practitioners from within.

Following on from Sense of Play 06 and 07, Playful is moving further afield to bring in experts and exponents from the cultural ‘mainstream’ to explore how to make the games medium more meaningful, to more people. Attracting a wider audience is now very much in the minds of many developers and publishers, and the knowledge that 65% of people who could engage with interactive entertainment choose not to. Despite bold efforts in the past few years by insiders and outsiders, cultural deficiencies are still there – or at least perceived to be there. So what can those of us who design games really learn from other parts of the creative arts? Conversely what does game design have to offer other areas of entertainment and culture?

Playful looks to chart the way forward, and on its way will visit not just the conventional console and PC game, but the myriad of interactive and play-based entertainment experiences which are increasingly becoming part of online, film, television, theatre, installation and performance arts.

The event will look for the interesting and the valuable from a range of areas outside the traditional creative industries including built environment, architects, authors, scientists, as well as the core networked and creative sectors we work with.
