Our American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS course is designed for people with job-related duties in emergency preparedness and response. This course covers 1 and 2 person CPR Adult, Child and Infant CPR, use of an AED on both a child and adult, choking for infants to adults, airway obstruction, bag valve mask and how to use a breathing barrier or pocket mask. This includes nurses, law enforcement and EMS personnel, fire fighters, athletic trainers, dentists, CNA, business and industry response teams, lifeguards, flight attendants, and others who must take action in emergency situations.

"The Business of Estate Sales" will cover start up, contracts, advertising, pricing, hiring help, organizing the sale, handling clients and customers and more. O'Keefe will explain how to avoid mistakes. There will also be expert guest speakers on books, precious and costume jewelry, photography, and pottery. A field trip and some food included. This 8 week series is designed to teach students how to find a new way to experience their backs by utilizing the amazing Feldenkrais Method. This unique body awareness modality helps individuals gain greater awareness of their bodies and to find original ways of moving in their life. We work on discovering new neural pathways in the brain. By doing slow movements with extensive awareness we can retrain the bodies habituated processes that are causing the pain. Much of our daily movement is happening outside of our conscious awareness. By bringing into awareness the way we move we give the brain the opportunity to find a different way of functioning in one's life. Standing, sitting, walking, running are all part of how we function. These movements are all learned patterns. We can learn new patterns that allow the body to move in a more efficient way that leads to a decrease in pain and discomfort.

Each class is very gentle and slow without any need for prior experience.

The goals of the class are:
* Develop increased body awareness of all parts of our body
* Integrate new movement patterns that eliminate pain

This workshop provides a forum for participants to discover conscious and unconscious ways in which class privilege or classism has affected their lives. It is an experiential workshop and is designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our class differences. Participants will explore their Class-based perceptions and issues concerning money and status through personal stories and a variety of diversity exercises.

Participants will:
* Understand why social class is a misunderstood, taboo subject and how social class status intersects with ethnicity and gender.
* Recognize the effects of social class on the personal history, behavior, and attitudes of individuals.
* Listen to and explore personal experiences and perspectives from participants of diverse class and ethnic backgrounds.
* Understand how social class differences can affect relationships, communication, and self-concept.

Closing the Achievement Gap through CULTURAL COMPETENCY

In school districts all over this country, up to 50%-78% students do not graduate high school. That translates into over 171,000 students who "disappear" between 9th-12th grade or fail to meet graduation requirements by the time they are seniors. Leading those statistics, as many as 45% or more of African American and Latino males students do not graduate.

In this workshop we will explore some of the reasons for their lack of success as well as how we, as a society, our educational institutions, administration, faculty and staff are not only a part of the problem but how we can also be a part of the solution.

Through the use of personal stories, films, facilitation and listening techniques, we will take a look at what needs to be done and what kinds of programs and techniques have worked.

Permaculture is about designing ecological human habitats and production systems. It is a land use and community building system which strives for the harmonious integration of human dwellings, microclimate, annual and perennial plants, animals, soils, and water into stable, productive communities.

The focus is not on these elements themselves, but rather on the relationships created among them by the way we place them in the landscape. This synergy is further enhanced by mimicking patterns found in nature.

It has been successfully used around the world to maximize food production, regenerate springs, cool homes without air conditioning, transform lives and reduce pollution, to name a few.

The essence of Permaculture is summed up by 3 ethics:
-Care of the Earth
-Care of the People
-Share the Surplus

*Urban Permaculture
We start with the standardized Permaculture curriculum and add onto it insights and strategies for applying Permaculture to the urban setting. This lengthens the course to a degree, we do not omit any of the standard materials.

Over 50% of the world's population now lives in urban centers and the number is growing. Adopting strategies to meet our needs in a sane and ethical way is critical. In this course, we will learn how to design those strategies.

*Active Design Course
This is a design course and participants will be working in teams producing a design for an actual project here in San Francisco. Throughout the course, we will share with you the tools and strategies required to complete the design which all culminates in the final presentation at the completion of the course.
