In 2007 David D'Or was invited to perform at the WOMAD Festival with Peter Gabriel in London, and Singapore and received exciting reviews from the BBC, and the entire international media. David also performed in Taiwan and Singapore for audiences of thousands of cheering fans. In 2007 he performed in Belgrade, Poland, China, Bangkok, Italy and more. He also published a new live concert album.

David will be performing a charitable concert -- Voice of the love -- in San Jose Center for Performing Arts on September 6th, 2008. All concert revenue will be donated to Tzu Chi Foundation, USA to support their charity work in northern California.

Buckethead is the masked, inverted KFC bucket wearing, "mutant guitar virtuoso" that stunned audiences during Primus's set at OzzFest '99, toured the world with Praxis and GR2, and graced many a movie soundtrack/score. His major label debut as a member of the avant-funk outfit Praxis in 1992 opened ears and minds to his unique character and musical stylings. He has since released several solo albums (under his name and Death Cube K) and participated in many group settings (most notably the Deli Creeps, Praxis, Zillatron, Giant Robot, Giant Robot 2 and Cobra Strike) and performed/recorded numerous collaborations with other adventurous musicians and artists.

Born in Taiwan, Chiayu will join audiences first for the World Premiere of Feng Nian Ji (Harvest Festival), which she has written expressly for the Festival. Based on the traditional harvest festival of Taiwan's largest aboriginal tribe, her music follows the progression of this dramatic ceremonial occasion.

Born in Belarus and now a U.S. citizen, Alla Borzova is well suited to articulate the immigrant experience. In To the New World which receives its U.S. Premiere today, Borzova tells of an imaginary ship that brings immigrants to the shores of America during the waves of immigration that began in the mid-19th-century.

MacArthur Fellow and Grammy Award-winning composer Osvaldo Golijov grew up in an Eastern European Jewish household in Argentina, surrounded by classical chamber music, Jewish liturgical and klezmer music, and the new tango of Astor Piazzolla. Last Round for string orchestra was written in memory of Piazzolla after a stroke killed him in 1992 at the peak of his creativity. With its white-hot passion and crisscrossed choreography of bows, Last Round is a sublimated tango dance.

Avner Dorman has quickly risen to become one of Israel's most successful and renowned composers. His Variations Without a Theme is described as "sophisticated music that cleverly explores both Eastern and Western sonic worlds" and "calls to mind the bustle of an Arab bazaar." The composer joins audiences for its West Coast Premiere.

Maestra Marin Alsop, the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, Chiayu, Borzova, and Dorman, bring the 2008 Festival season to a resounding close in the splendor of Mission San Juan Bautista.

Next, the Festival's own principal clarinetist Bharat Chandra, praised for his "superb phrasing and creamy tone," takes center stage as soloist for the U.S. Premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage's Riffs and Refrains, a work said to "exploit the full range and color of the instrument."

Then John Corigliano's The Mannheim Rocket takes us on an imaginary journey to the heavens and back atop an 18th century wedding-cake-rocket commandeered by the great Baron Von Munchausen.

The concert closes with the West Coast Premiere of John Adams' new Doctor Atomic Symphony, a 25-minute, one-movement symphonic score adapted by the composer from his 2005 opera about the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project. This is a piece considered by some critics to be "a significant leap forward for Adams as a composer." The work includes passages from the overture, Oppenheimer's Baudelaire soliloquy, the electrical storm music, "Batter my heart," and the culminating "Countdown" music. And according to the New York Times "invites you to hear the elusive music-driving passages with pounding timpani, quizzically restrained lyrical flights, bursts of skittish fanfares-on its own terms, apart from its dramatic context." An evocative and explosive evening awaits!

The program opens with the World Premiere of composer Dorothy Chang's Strange Air. A work inspired by the beauty and intensity of the Pacific Northwest's natural environment, it was commissioned by Festival patron Russ Irwin as the first project of the Women's Philharmonic Commissioning Initiative of Meet The Composer.

Mason Bates returns to the Festival to once again perform on electronica with the orchestra in a work titled Liquid Interface. Bates became consumed with the idea of water as the influence of a musical endeavor when he experienced living on Berlin's enormous Lake Wannsee. "Over the course of barely two months, I watched this huge body of water transform from an ice sheet thick enough to support sausage vendors, to a refreshing swimming destination heavy with humidity." Liquid Interface begins with glaciers and moves through all the forms of water, inhabiting an increasingly hotter world in each of its four progressive movements. The work is dedicated by Bates to his mentor and friend, John Corigliano.

So how appropo that Academy, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Corigliano should be present for Bates' West Coast Premiere, as well as the West Coast Premiere of his own Conjurer, a percussion concerto featuring soloist Dame Evelyn Glennie. A work for string orchestra and percussionist, Corigliano's Conjurer is in three movements, each restricted to a particular type of percussion: wood, metal, and skin. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said of the Pittsburgh Symphony's premiere, "[Conjurer] proved to be one blessed by the full dimension performance by soloist Dame Evelyn Glennie, conductor Marin Alsop and the orchestra."

On Phantom Punch Sondre Lerche & The Faces Down deliver music brimming over with unrestrained youthful energy. 11 powerful tracks, several recorded live in only one take, don't forsake Lerche's well renowned melodic gifts, but its concise solos and vigorous ensemble playing show us a band at the top of their game. “These songs are cut to the bone, not a second longer than they have to be,” Lerche explains. “And I didn't want to be subtle this time around, I wanted every song to jump out of the speakers – punchy, concise pop songs, played with restless spirit.”

“I toured with Elvis Costello last year,” Lerche recalls. “The way he interacted with his band made me start writing songs with my band in mind. Duper Sessions was about the swing, but Phantom Punch is about capturing the physical energy of four musicians playing together in a room, and the joy of music”

Phantom Punch is sparked by Lerche's initial musical exposure, paying tribute to a wide range of sounds anywhere from 80s pop to Brazilian music. There are sharp edgy rockers like “Face The Blood” and “The Tape;” bright melodic pop tunes like “Say It All” and “She's Fantastic;” the psychotic disco-waltz of the addictive title track, the acoustic introspection of “Tragic Mirror” and “John, Let Me Go”, a surrealistic tune with a quirky yet infectious bossa nova rhythm.

Producer Tony Hoffer (Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Phoenix, Supergrass, Marianne Faithful) was chosen by Sondre to get a brighter more aggressive sound. “They've been with me for over six years now so we're a fairly dynamic group,” Lerche says of his Faces Down trio - guitarist Kato Ådland, drummer Ole Ludvig Krüger and bass man Morten Skage. “Hoffer helped us get that intensity on tape. We tried to do a song a day, with me singing live on every take, just like in concert, searching for that one special take.”

Kicks Off "Public Television Rocks!" - New Initiative from Thirteen and WLIW21 to Bring Excitement to Public Television Nationwide

The Police, in conjunction with New York public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21, have announced that after fourteen months of a record-breaking tour, their much anticipated final concert, will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Madison Square Garden, featuring special guests the B-52s. In a groundbreaking partnership, tickets to the concert will only be available through a pledge to Thirteen/WNET and/or WLIW21. The concert is expected to be the largest single fundraising event in the history of public television.

Tickets to the final Police concert will be available in pairs to supporters of Thirteen and WLIW21 as thank-you gifts for contributions at various gift levels ($750, $500, $350, $150) on Saturday, June 14. The stations will celebrate The Police with a historical look at Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers, featuring classic concert footage and interviews. This will air simultaneously on Thirteen, WLIW21, and Thirteen HD, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Later that same evening, WLIW21 will rebroadcast at 9 p.m.

A limited, once-in-a-lifetime experience including VIP access to the band's sound check for their final concert, dinner for two and a special souvenir gift is available at the $5,000 contribution level. There are also a limited number of V.I.P. Seats available at the $2,000 level that includes prime seating and a private pre- show reception. Ticketmaster will oversee ticket fulfillments, whether viewers pledge online or via phone, and in the spirit of the event, they will donate their service charge to the stations. Madison Square Garden is also pleased to donate a portion of their fees to benefit the invaluable and rich efforts of public television.

The Police, who kicked off their first American tour in 1978 at NYC's legendary CBGB's, have come full circle with the decision to perform the final show of their reunion tour in the City as a benefit for New York Public Television.

"We are honored to partner with public television and have a deep respect for their commitment to arts and culture," said The Police at a May 6th press conference with New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, where the band announced their own pledge to the city of $1 million towards the Mayor's MillionTrees initiative to plant 10,000 new trees and help reforest 2,000 acres of New York City.

The band's partnership with public television kicks off "Public Television Rocks!" -- a new campaign initiated by Thirteen and WLIW21 that will combine events and programming to expand public television's appeal to a wider audience and will become available to public television stations across the country for their own fundraising efforts.

"This historic concert event will benefit Thirteen and WLIW21 in general but, more specifically, enhance the arts and culture programming that these two stations provide to New York and America," says Neal Shapiro, President and CEO of the Educational Broadcasting Corporation, the licensee of Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21. "This is an exciting kick-off to the Public Television Rocks! campaign," which will help public television "engage with a new generation of audience and hopefully become a new model for future fundraising."

Beginning June 8th, Thirteen and WLIW21 launched a microsite for "Public Television Rocks!" at http://www.publictelevisionrocks.org with sneak-peek interview footage, webisodes and information about the August 7th final Police concert. On Sunday, August 10, 2008, Kenny Loggins and his band will be performing for the first time in the legendary Casino Ballroom, a 1929 Art Deco masterpiece that sits on the edge of beautiful Avalon Bay on Santa Catalina Island.

The Hipwaders are a showcase for the kid-friendly songwriting of Tito Uquillas. In 2005, the band received a Parent's Choice Award for their first album, "The Smile Project". The Hipwaders' official self-titled debut album also won a Parents' Choice Award in 2006, and the band was nominated by XM Satellite Radio as one of the best new kid's' music acts for 2005.

In 2007, The Hipwaders released the album, "Educated Kid", and performed at the Lollapalooza Festival, in Chicago. The album was voted #5 best album of the year in the "Fids and Kamily" poll.
